THE SCREAMING EAGLE & Madison Leftists

I have to be the first to admit that I had no idea that the original (well almost, more on that latter) Screaming Eagle sits proudly overlooking the Hemicyle of Madison's Capitol.   You know, the Screaming Eagle held with respect by our 101st Airborne Division.

Well I am learning that the Original Screaming Eagle was once "Old Abe", the mascot of Wisconsin's 8th Volunteer Infantry Regiment.  When the 101st Infantry Division was constituted, Old Abe was adopted as its divisional insignia.

Here he is perched by an artillery piece of the period.  His Wiki Page is: HERE.  After the Civil War, Old Abe was kept around Madison's Capitol as a reminder of Wisconsin's contribution to that great war.  And once he died in 1881, he was stuffed and mounted on the chamber of the State's House of Delegates.  A fire in 1904 destroyed him (and most of the capitol).  Thus what sits there is a reproduction of the old war bird.

And the reason for this entry? Well a leftist ArseHat not surprisingly has made a nuisance of himself by referring to Old Abe as: "Wisconsin governor Scott Walker's budget address was delivered beneath a dead and stuffed eagle".  Go ahead visit this poor uninformed leftist loon, and leave him a note or two on your feelings for Old Abe, The 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment, and our 101st Airmobile Division.

The link to his ignorance is: HERE.

Interesting piece of historical trivia. I like this kind of stuff.
Thank you for posting it. As to the Dork in question, I can't
publicly comment on that. It probably would be illegal.

The Dimbulbs evidently couldn't intimidate the Repub legislators with their antics, so now they've taken to making death threats against -- their families.

Anonymously, of course. If Libs had been at the Alamo, Texas would still be part of Mexico.

Well UnkaBill, you said:
If Libs had been at the Alamo, Texas would still be part of Mexico.
I'd say: If Old Abe would be alive, he would peck their eyes out.

Boq, you win (as usual) . Birds are right scary. They are descended from dinosaurs, you know. Mah kitteh has been at war with the mockingbirds here for his entire life, and he's 16 years old.

Modern-day dinosaurs are cool, as I have had them all of my life.  My lattest is MIKEY which I've had for the past eighteen years
