The loyalty of a dog...

canine-courage-03-2011.jpgA U.S. Army soldier and Pronto, his Special Forces military working dog, jump off the ramp of a CH-47 Chinook helicopter during water training over the Gulf of Mexico as part of Emerald Warrior, March 1, 2011. Whether it's Pronto, jumping into the water with his battle-buddy, or Liam and Theo, battle-buddies to the end.

I have a placard in the Armory that reads... "The more I know certain people, the more I like dogs."

Amen.  Rest in peace, Liam and Theo.  You certainly ensured that others would be safe.  *dang leakage.  Can't see to type.*

Dogs are some of the best people I know - not to offend any cat lovers out there but I've never heard stories about cats compared to dogs like Theo and Greyfriars Bobby. If there are, my hats off to them.

Don't forget Fosco! He jumped with the 701st MP BN and the Golden Knights.

Ooohrah.

Oh, kittehs are loyal.  They feel.  But they are not a pack animal the way humans and dogs are.  They tend to be more independent, and that is part of their allure.  Dogs, OTOH, are the way people should be.  I will always cherish the memory of the dogs we have owned and loved.  Reading things like this just reminds me that once the CLUs are out of the house, the Engineer and I will prolly get a dog.

I do seriously love mah kitteh, and am sure he loves me in his cat way, but yes, dogs are more loyal. I suspect that I might be too flaky and slackish to take proper care of a dog, but I do seem to get along well with other people's dogs.

We loved, and still mourn, our loyal Blue Heeler, Sassy, lost to us on 7 Feb 2001. She was a good one. Great for teh kids while were on the Farm, and still a lot of fun after we moved to Marietta, OH. We can't seem to bring ourselves to get another one, of any type.

Sassy would want you too, QM.  She'd want you to rescue some poor pup from the pound.

Dogs are definitely my favorite too. My childhood dog (we got her when I was 12) died a month before I deployed. Joy was a stubborn-as-hell Akita crossbred. I know I'm better off for growing up with a furry hunting companion/bodyguard/wrestling partner/footwarmer.

I'm already scheming to adopt one of my own as soon as I get back to the States and move out of the barracks. I agree with Sir John- pound puppies are the best.

Each of the scrup'l pack was a pound pup, 'cept for Gabby. She was my payment for roofing an Adirondack cabin in '07.

That dog seems to be asking 'WTF! Huuuuh???!' as he is being pushed out the back of that chopper...

I'm sure she would Sir John. We've come close a coupla times, but backed down.

Well, man up, QM.  Or, more accurately, puppy up!
