Frank Woodruff Buckles, the last surviving American veteran of World War I, lies in honor in the Memorial Amphitheater Chapel at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. He died on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at his West Virginia home at age 110. Mr. Buckles enlisted in the Army on Aug. 14, 1917, at the age of 16; he was discharged in 1920. Glad I checked - I was about to put up a similar pic.

RIP, Corporal Buckles.  Say hello to Daddy Jack for me - he fought in your war, too.
 
I wish I'd find the Hi-Rez version to link to it.  Of all the pictures of his funeral, this is the one that catches me aback.
 
If we cannot do him honour while he's here to hear the praise
Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days.
Perhaps just a simple headline in a paper that would say:
"Our country is in mourning - for a soldier died today".
 
 He can say hi for me to my Grandpa formerly of the 42nd Division in France 1918.
 

Ditto for Uncles Floyd and Sylvan.  Rest in peace.
