I'll take 4, plz

Then I can spend evenings shooting illum over the houses of people who annoy me and live within 20 kms or so.

Or help my buds get a leg-up on field burning or woods-clearing.

I understand that some of those vehicles are available as special order from your local Hyundai or Kia dealer through their SR -A catalog...

Wonder what the "North" thinks of this?  Pretty cool.  I especially liked the resupply coupling and transfer.  Much smoother than the old 8-inch days.  Don't know about the Soviet-style hub-to-hub firing, but impact was impressive.  Gives a entirely different bent to "Battery Shopping".

If I was Jr. I'd be skeered.

Oh boy.  A touch screen, in combat?  Running a Windows equivalent?  "Blue Screen of Death" won't be a figure of speech.  How do you reboot a tank?

The goezBOOM is nice, though.

the only thing that p***es me off about this is that we killed this idea years ago.  Actually, a CongressKritter did.  Paladin  would have been da goezBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

BCR - report to Bill for remedial vehicle recognition/terminology classes.  You call a howitzer a tank one more time and you will force me to chastise you one more time...

<feline yawn of indifference> Hey, at least I knew it wasn't an APC.  Haz treads. Haz long pointy thing-goes-BOOM.  Haz guys inside.  And to conclude, PTHBBBT.

"...you will force me to chastise you one more time... "

Nnnoooo, NOT the comfy chair!!
0>;~}

Got a traffic jam? BCR, you would be a little [REDACTED], if you got the BSOD. What would you do? Well, first, where's the dang DVD for this thing? It takes *HOW LONG?!?!* BCR, you're right, were screwed!

Ah!! I love the smell of CORDITE in the morning!  it smells like..........Victory!!!!!!!

Alrighty-then, no more catnip for you!

Just maybe they're running Linux instead of Microsoft.  After all, EVERYONE understands that the only reason DOJ let Microsoft get off so easy after they had lost the monopoly trial (think of it as Bush's "Black Panther Terrorists" case) was because Bill has given the Feds back doors into all their products.  And Linux does not seem to have the BSOD problem...

Cool!  The Ammunition insemination stuff is pretty sexy!  Looks like a real time saver to keep the guns ready to go instead of a bunch of guys humping stuff from the supply rig to the shooters.

Maybe they would sell us some, since we cannot seem to build much of anything that works and is affordable any more.  Do they make ships too?

@John (NTA), "The Ammunition insemination stuff is pretty sexy!" This with, "guys humping", that's right, John(NTG), keep it *real subtle!* I must admit, in your second paragraph,  some would say, it appears that you improve. But, wouldn't that depend on you position?

Personally, I find the idea of Americans owning surplus a bit heartening, as it means we have a connection to and fondness for the military.  Now, as to the type of American and surplus, that is another story.  Ferexampleif:  John has a tank on his property, kewl.  If I have a tank on mine, it is there to fall apart, as I know nothing about them.  A Jeep, though, is a different story.  Thus, the surplus must be matched to the buyer/user  thereof.

I'm very supportive of Linux but I'll admit Windows is much more stable than the good old days of 95. My concern would be more along the lines of it doing what *it* likes via infection, bug or because some update wants to run mid battle.

I wonder how mil computer systems deal with the rather rough handling and all that dust and smoke in tanks like that one.

I didn't notice a coupling other than on a flat surface. Sometimes those are difficult to find, especially the size of two tanks. A round, rather than rectangular, mating connection might help. Cool, though. (Oh, can it be run in reverse, to extract ammo from an out-of-use tank?)

Us ex-Sailors cum Tankers, know the difference between Tanks and SP Howitzers. At least Cricket admits ignorance, and who expects a Cat to know?

Catnip deprivation and the brutal assignment to the comfy chair is probably inhumane, however. There's probably something about it in the Geneva Convention. The PETA codicil, that is.

I think Grumpy just renamed John (Not The Armorer) to John (Not Too Gay)...  or something.

Easiest way to tell the difference between a SP Gun and tank.
Does it have a turret?
Y) Tank
N) SP Gun

Well, at least that was true before IFV's started mounting little autocannons in a turret.

MikeD - your formulation hasn't been good since... the late 50's and the fielding of guns like the M55.

Hold the phone- was that what I think it was at 2:24?!  Please tell me that was MLRS in DF?!

Break, Break.  Tell me that wasn't MLRS in DF mode at 2:24!?

Yup, an MLRS. And AH-1Fs at 2:40 and a cute little SP surface-to-surface 2.75-inch rocket launcher at 3:00.

MikeD -- Easiest way to tell the difference between a SP Gun and tank:
Is the vehicle commander wearing spurs?
Y) Tank
N) SP Gun

" .. and the fielding of guns like the M55."

And that crazy Swedish thing, the Stridsvagn 103.  LOL

Stridsvagn 103?  So THAT's what her name was!  Third from the left on the Swedish Bikini Team is who you're talking about, right?

Rule 34, folks! Ammunition insemination? Snork!

(all humans have dirty minds)

JTG, You write, “(all humans have dirty minds)”. Are you sure that we have dirty minds, or just natural minds? We all joke and clown around here. It just may be a good thing, do we have a place that we can let these “dirty old minds” out and let them play, within the rulez. ; - )

I always considered John (NTA) to be “John (Not Too Gay)", for that matter, not gay at all.  I always figured, that he was secure enough to  clown with, in this blog.

Armorer, did I miss something?  ; - )

@John: yes. The ROK can build anything from light patrol craft to helicopter carriers (and does) in the military yards, and anything at all in their civilian yards (they specialise in the very big, supertankers and bulk carriers).

All of NATO has forgotten about artillery, especially massed artillery barrages. Everything is "precision strike, minimisation of collateral damage", and artillery doesn't fit into that equation.
So instead of using a batallion of howitzers to pound the heck out of an enemy position for a few thousand dollars, we use Tomahawk cruise missiles to "surgically strike" each foxhole for a few million dollars a pop.

@JTW From a layman's point of view, assuming air superiority in favour of South Korea, a number of well sited, well sighted in howitzers seems just the thing to make things unpleasant for NK infantry, and anything else soft-shelled coming over the DMZ.
