Seriously speaking, Casey, You can blame Napoleon III for it.  When he placed his cousin Maximilian to the throne of Mexico.  Good ol Max-Daddy wanted to jam with his boyz the latest European tunes up in his crib in Chapultepec Palace.

And since the latest rage in Europe was the Polka, the rest is history.

Aktchally, I'd have expected to see something like that during the terms of El Presidente Jorje Arbusto. I think the Won despises Mexicans almost as much as he despises white folks. Sigh! Where is Grover Cleveland, now that we really need him?  (he was the last Real Democrat to hold the Presidency)
