Poseurs.

Yanno, those hosers who pretend they were warriors.

I blame Shakespeare -
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

The last four lines are the poseur's motivation. Clearly, they've been around a while.

And yes, today is St. Crispin's Day...

I have had a couple of contemporaries come up to me and express regret that they didn't go to Vietnam. I have more sympathy for those that ran off to Canada. They at least paid a price. If all the people that claim to have been in Vietnam had actually been there we would have had double the number of troops in the field.

Bill has forgiven me for not going to Viet-Nam. I think that counts as absolution. At any rate, it was mostly over (for Americans) by the time I came of military age.

That's on the low side. And for every one of us who walks down the Dark Trail, five wannabes pop out of the woodwork...

Hi Justthisguy: No sweat; no sin no absolution necessary. My beef is with people who could have gone, worked hard not to, and now tell me they wish they had. My bigger beef is with people who didn't go, and now claim they did, especially when they do it when running for office. They dishonor those men and women who didn't come back.

I volunteered for Vietnam, but it got quashed. I was still 17 when I put my dream sheet in and the Navy was not allowing us over growed boys to play in BillT's jungle sandbox.

Amen, Acad Ronin...

Whatever the war...

I was going to stay out of this one, but sleep just doesn't do it. I find it hard to believe QM's assertion, that BillT does not play well with others and  share his toys, while in the jungle sandbox. <snicker, snicker> QM, you talked about being under aged and your "Dream Sheet", being quashed. There's always a reason. It benefits everybody, that year of maturity, means a great deal.
