Maverick Firearms Instructor

Last week in an E-Mail, Parrothead Jeff alerted Massa John about four videos that feature an *er* unconventional firearms instructor. These series of clips were sent to Dr. Ignatius Piazza, who runs a Firearms Training Institute in California.  Their original purpose was to demonstrate to Dr. Piazza the skills that this Firearms Training Instructor possess, in a bid to join his Firearms Institute Team.

By the reaction, I don't think that they achieved its purpose, as Dr. Piazza was not too impressed about his regards to classroom safety.  But you decide.

HERE's the link to the original posting.

Upon watching the clips, I downloaded them and gave them a quick translation.  After putting them as private videos in my Youtube Channel, I repeatedly asked Dr. Piazza for permission to make them public.  He apparently is too busy to care and/or doesn't mind me sharing them with you, as he never got back to me on the matter.  So, as Tacitus once said: Quid Tacit Concedit. He who keeps quiet agrees.  Thus, I am sharing them with you right now.

Keep in mind that all clips are the sole right of Dr.  Piazza.  If he ever disagrees with me sharing them with you, I shall delete them from cyberspace at once.  Oh BTW, as I was awaiting for permission, NevadaDailySteve also made reference to these series of clips.  Thanks.

Here's the first one:

... Followed by a quick Shotgun Drill (please enable the Closed Caption "CC" in the video for subtitles).

... The third one is an interesting variant, this time using an AK-47:

... And finally, using a pistol.

I will keep most of my thoughts on these clips to myself; prefering instead to let you all comment on them.  However, I am state the following:

- By his unique accent, I can tell that this instructor comes from Nicaragua.
- His narration may seem cavalier as he goes on his demonstration, this may or may not be due to not having the full context on the other parts of video which were edited out by Dr. Piazza.

Still, I would love to have your comments and reactions on this matter.  Waddayathink eh?

Is there a single rule of firearm safety this guy doesn't break?
Muzzle allowed to cover his poor assistant?  Check, ad nauseum.
Firearm loaded while doing the above?  Check, plus he, according to the translation subtitles, even switches the safety off before waving the weapon around in the first video.
Finger inside the trigger guard?  Check.
The only rule he may be following is to be sure of his target and what lies behind it, but I'm not sure how much that counts for when his target is a few inches from his assistant's ear and he's using a shotgun.  "There's a remote possibility that one individual shot will bounce out of the grouping and hit [my assistant] in the head.  Oh well."

In short, and this coming from someone who doesn't even get the chance to use firearms more than a few times in a given year, "Holy crap." o.O

I hope he's paying his high speed demonstrator a lot of money, and buying him a lot of beer. also, Why, since he has the two shooting dummies, wouldn't he just position one as the hostage, and thus alleviate the safety issue. This guy just seems far too cavalier to be teaching anyone anything. He is lacking extremely in the common sense department.

On one hand I can see the importance of using live "victims" Understandable to a very limited but hars extent. But at least give the guy a vest. and a helmet.

Yesh.

Basically assisted suicide.

This is an accident, waiting to happen. Never point a weapon at something or someone you're not ready to kill, even for a moment. In reality, a "hostage" is already dead, unless you can intervene. In these 3 clips, what are the actual variables? If you stop and think about it, there is only one unknown variable, this shooter-instructor. Would this be a picture of reality? My answer would be no. The clips show a scripted scenario. In reality, the variables go from 1 to 4.  You can not anticipate anyone's moves, including yours or even the hostage.

The cockiness does not present confidence, but destroys it. On the day I left for the Military, my Dad got up and talked with me, he left me with his counsel. He said, "When you think you're a SMARTA$$ and go out an act like a BADA$$. Everybody is going to look at you like you're a DUMBA$$. In reality, you'r nothing more than a garden variety A$$H*LE.

This is a perfect example of my Father's counsel.

All I can think is that it's not the best way to introduce yourself as a possible instructor.

This is badness.

The actual FS is in Nye cty, Nevada.  The office is in CA.
I got that email, too, and I think Naish won't mind you sharing it because he did indicate that it "would never happen at FS"  :o)
