German "Heatballs" To Save The Day

With the current ban in the EU for all incandescent light bulbs, and its upcoming ban in these here shores, a German entrepreneur has come up with a brilliant (pun intended) idea:

Behold Das Heatball:

Reuters reports that Rotthaeuser (the German entrepreneur) studied EU legislation and realized that because the inefficient old bulbs produce more warmth than light -- he calculated heat makes up 95 percent of their output, and light just 5 percent -- they could be sold legally as heaters.

Maybe we can learn a thing or two from The Krautz.

If yez tries ta sell dem as *heaters* in parts of Philly, yez'll wind up as a low-tide marker off da wharf in Billy Penn's Landin'...

We use incandescents in the hen häuser for that purpose in the winter - heat.  Plus the light extends the "day" for the hens so they still lay.
