Gun Pr0n, still teasing after all these years.

For those who keep an eye on me via Facebook, you know I'm suffering a little flare of the ol' gout.  For me it only happens when I get stressed - and I spent this last week stressed writing a proposal for some new work.  I don't get stressed writing big props for lots of work - but when I'm writing one that's essentially for me... well, I get a little stressed, don't pay attention to things I should, and sometimes the gout flares.  It's not a full up attack - if it was, I wouldn't be teasing like I am in this post - as Barb observed on Facebook - I'd be working a nut-crusher Whatziss.

So, let's tease with something pulled from Behind The Green Vault Door...

Beretta-built BM-59 "Paracutisti" model. Semi-auto version. Looks like an M14, but it's really an M1 action with a removeable magazine, vice the en-bloc clip-fed internal magazine of the M1 Garand. The soldiers and Marines returning from WWII and Korea are why so many people are technically incorrect when they call magazines clips, as the warriors called magazines clips because, well, theyd been loading their rifles with... clips.  Though, technically, they were loading the magazine of the rifle with... clips. Yes, that's a pet peeve of mine. Why d'you ask?

The BM59 from the left side, with the grenade launching sight extended. Extending the sight also blocks the gas cylinder, so you can launch the grenade with a blank cartridge. That long thing in front of the sight is the "Tri-Compensator," or "Tricomp" for short.  It's a flash suppressor, recoil-reducer, and holds the grenade - three functions, hence the name.

Mmmm, gun Pr0n.

Nice.

Ooooooo pretty Italian PrOn. Whatsit shoot? 7.62, 306, what?

After a moment of googling, the BM59 uses 7.62 NATO rounds.

And it sure is a purty gun. The marbling on the stock is gorgeous.

John, if my quickie-research was correct, the BM59 also includes the ability to load rounds from the top, Garand-style. Is that correct? I imagine it would make life easier for someone wanting to pop in a blank round to fire a grenade.

mmmmmmmmmmm

Me likey!

This is yet more evidence that The Armorer has an autistic pedantic co-processor in that huge head.  Oh, I concur with him.

DO WANT!  What's the price?

Guns America has a G.S.A. Beretta BM59 clone .308 Win for $1595.....

I'll pass and keep working on my collection of Ruger 10-22s.  Last I looked I had 2 used standards, 2 WalMart Specials, and 1 Ruger's 25th (?) Anniversary Special Edition.

LaMigra, have you added a Charger to that yet?  10/22 base with a 12"  barrel, and a nice stock, comes with bipod.  Legally, a pistol, but every bit if not moreso accurate as a regular rifle.  Lots of fun!

Actually, now that I look at it closer, if you take away the folding stock, squint a little, and think "miniature" version, a Ruger Charger looks a lot like that BM59

Very nice!  You eating some cherries? Good for your gout. I eat the froze ones, they seem to be just as effective as fresh, aqnd cheaper, esp. at Trader Joes.

JTG - you are most assuredly correct - Pedantic is one of my "middle" names!

Casey - yes, you can 'top-off" the magazine, or load singles.  There is a "clip-guide" integral to the receiver, as per the M14.

it would be nice if I could get more clips for my 1911's :p

damn thats a nice looking M1.

Honestly, I enjoy more web traffic and search engine love from articles than any other thing. I find it comical that good old article marketing still works after all the wonderful internet marketing gadgets that have come along.
