Happy Birthday, Home!

For all of you who have ever received a flag from your "adopted" troops stationed in the various corners of the globe with the notation, "This flag was flown..."

...it flew from a flagpole that looked a lot like this, in surroundings that looked a lot like this, in a sky that looked a lot like this.

Fly it today. It wasn't meant to sit neatly folded, wrapped in plastic to protect it from the dust, tucked away in a desk drawer, out of sight.

Celebrate the Nation it represents and what it still means, not where it flew on just one day in history.

Celebrate America and Americans -- it's *our* birthday.

Now, stop reading this and get out there and fire up the grill -- and char-broil something for those who can't be there.

John, drink a couple of beers for me -- none of that sissy "Lite" stuff, either...

As a matter of fact, I just received one yesterday, and plan to fly it tomorrow (today for you!) in honor of the day.  Actually, I have two which I will fly for a short time each, then send pics to the soldiers who sent me the flags.
Thanks Bill - not just for the reminder, but for being one of those people keeping the colors strong!  {hugs}

"Stars and Stripes Forever" on the "phones right now, played by the New Sousa Band, Keith Brion conducting.  It's the weird American Exceptionalism, and I am wallowing in it!

God Save the United States of America!

A Happy American 4th of July to y'all!

The Castle will fly a "flown in Kandahar" flag today.

Thanks Unkabill - And a happy 4th of July to all!

The only one I have like that was a present from Tori.  She flew it in her Blackhawk while in Iraq a couple of years ago.  She apologized for the slightly dirty stars- which is my favorite part, other than the fact that she flew it for me, herself.  I'm afraid that if I fly it, the dirt will disappear.  It flies in my heart every day though, especially since she's back in AFG and having a rough go of it thanks to some dickheads above her.
