Canada Day

We lurves our Canadian bretheren and sisteren. Even the tankers.

In a world darkened by ethnic conflicts that tear nations apart, Canada stands as a model of how people of different cultures can live and work together in peace, prosperity, and mutual respect.
- William Jefferson Clinton

Canada is not really a place where you are encouraged to have large spiritual adventures.
- Robertson Davies, 1913 - 1995

If the national mental illness of the United States is megalomania, that of Canada is paranoid schizophrenia.
- Margaret Atwood

Canada is a good country to be from. It has a gentler slower pace; it lends perspective.
- Paul Anka

The people of Canada have worked hard to build a country that opens its doors to include all, regardless of their differences; a country that respects all, regardless of their differences; a country that demands equality for all, regardless of their differences.
- Paul Martin

The beaver, which has come to represent Canada as the eagle does the United States and the lion Britain, is a flat-tailed, slow-witted, toothy rodent known to bite off its own testicles or to stand under its own falling trees.

I've never met a bad Canadian, but I've never met a sane one either. Maybe that's 'cause I'm always in Quebec..... dunno...

Thanks, John!  And an early Happy Independence Day to you and yours!

 Greetings;

During my all-expense-paid tour of sunny Southeast Asia, I had a Canadian citizen in my infantry squad.  He had come south and volunteered for service in our military. He was a strac trooper and never failed me on the hunt or in a fight.  Whenever I hear about the dirtbags who ignored their duty and fled to our northern neighbor, I kind of smile to myself and think, "I sure got the better of that deal."

On the other, and much less important hand, he was a hockey-playing fool.  To expand on what Bill Russell, the Boston Celtic, star said about basketball being a contact sport and football being a collision sport, hockey is a collision sport with weapons.  No place for someone of my obvious intelligence to be.

Salute to all our pals in the great white north neighborhood!

Glad to have them as neighbors, and especially glad to have their capable, reliable and brave troops in the fight with us.  Their service and sacrifices are too little recognized on both sides of the border.

Now if we could just get them to cure that frogspeak stuff in certain areas...

Margaret Atwood is our secret weapon, her writing is so dull that all we have to do is threaten to drop here into the opposing country capital. If people don’t believe us we just point to Celine Dion and tell them Atwood is far worse.

Despite the squabbles we have our relationship is pretty damm good. We used to help the USCG 13th district in Seattle as we had a dive team and they didn’t. The 17th used to help our Northern guys with Helo’s during SAR missions to name a few linkages. When people complain about the US, I ask them, would you have preferred the USSR?

Thanks to the birthday wishes and here’s a big early “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” to you guys as well. Now that Obama is in power, can we send all of the dirtbag draft dodgers back?

Um, Colin?  Keep 'em.  Our treat.

Had the pleasure of serving with some outstanding Canadians in Somalia and Afghanistan.  Still kinda P.O.'d that they wouldn't swap their Tilley for a boonie.  Other than that, they're a good bunch.  Happy birthday, eh?

Half the Warrant Aircraft Commanders in my platoon in the 162d were Canadian. It's entirely their fault that I still have the entire score of "Tommy" imprinted in my cerebral cortex and "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature" running as a permanent subroutine below my tinnitus...
