Marvelous. Just Marvelous.

From Fox:
Military-style gear and weapons were found inside the vehicle of a man and woman who attempted to gain illegal entry to MacDill Air Force Base in Florida on Monday, the military said.

It gets better; Fort Gordon MPs arrested a civilian ON BASE who had "'several possible grenades' and other 'militarylike' items" in his car.  (anyone notice a pattern?).  Nothing to see here- move along....

Yeeeeeaaah, that Ft. Gordon story makes no sense. Apparently he posed as an 82nd Airborn MSG, and just asked the MPs for the gear, including grenades and a landmine. And got them. I really hope this isn't true, 'cause I don't want to believe our MPs are that dumb.

I'd question that story a bit.  For one, MP's don't carry that kind of gear and wouldn't have easy access to them.  For two, it's NBC.

Two bases, McDill AFB and Ft Gordon, the more you know, the more you know that "Bill" picked the right title for this thread.

Go to the top of this article, click, "From Fox" and read the updated story. At the bottom of the story, you'll see a link to   www.MyFoxTampaBay.com.  Click it. You'll find his name and that he was AWOL, from FT Riley, Kansas. Read the article and watch the video. There's a great deal more than I am writing here.

Yeah, and then there'sthis yahoo, on Ft. Gordon.

How much you wanna bet Ft. Gordon is no longer accessible by the public with just a driver's license now?

ok... can anyone tell I wrote that before reading any of the other comments?  heh.

I've wondered about that too, Annabelle. I think next time I get off post in civvies I'll try to get back in with my license instead of ID... just to see what happens.

And now it gets even nuttier as a reservist shoots and kills another reservist on Ft Gillem.

Unless they've closed your installation, Saker, they'll let you on the installation.  Here at Fort Leavenworth, if you are in a DoD registered vehicle, all you have to have is valid ID to go through the short line.  If you don't have a DoD registered vehicle, you have to go through the inspection line.

You might get asked to show your registration if you are in a DoD registered vehicle and you don't show a military ID of some form, just to ensure the vehicle is yours, but that's about it.

Post to post rules may vary.

More interesting to me is giving out sensitive items (weapons sights, night vision goggles) to anyone who just shows up in cammies and asking for them.  I'd be all after some confirmation - not just signing 'em out to any joe willing to sign a hand reciept.
