Dyspeptic tree frogs!

C'mon, you know that's what they look like from this angle... air-assault-Sayed-Abad.jpg

Air Assault?  You know, CH-47s going into a hot LZ just seems so wrong.  I'm guessing that doesn't happen too often.   Perhaps the official title is a bit of hyperbole.

It happens, I have a friend who did just that deep into Indian Country in Helmand Province. And that's all I have to say about that.

In the documentary about the Marines in the first few days of the Iraq war, a CH-47 was used as a med evac and made a very hot landing and pick up on a highway just south of Bagdad.

I sarw it with my own eyes....both of them.

Great caption! Wrong end!

Casual plug for the ACH-47A...

'Hooks have MUCH better high altitude performance than Blackhawks, and two 'Hooks can deliver a good-sized assault force in one lift.  So yes, they are using them to fly into hot LZ's when the LZ's are well up into the mountains, or when they gots to fly over some mountains to get to the LZ.

The '47's in the 'Stan tend to have an M240 or M60 in both the left and right windows just aft of the flight deck, and an M2 or Mk19 in a mount on the ramp.  They aren't defenseless.

HORY CLAP!  I never thought of that!

The bird is a good ride if you don't daydream by staring out the back -- almost upchucked in my Kevlar.

I like tree frogs, especially Tree Frog Beer; "Doesn't taste like much, but it gets you there faster."

Ah, Casey, another Gilbert Shelton fan! The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers were my favorite cartoon characters. I still chortle, nay, giggle, no, LOL at the thought of the episode in which Fat Freddy teaches gun non-safety.  (hint: "Aw, it's not loaded.")

P.s. My kitty looks EXACTLY like Fat Freddy's Cat.

Awesome caption, and perfectly true. I was thinking of changing my blog name to "Dyspeptic tree frog"

JTG, there may be some synchronicity here, but I was referring to an old WEBN (Cincinnati) radio gag. They featured joke ads from Brute Force Cybernetics ("We create a need, then fulfill it..."), including Tree Frog Beer. Another ad touted "Little Queens," a take-off of Schoenling's "Little Kings" Cream Ale.

The Frog (later Tree Frog) has been a station mascot for years. Back in the early 70s, they touted Frog as a write-in candiate for Mayor, which generated several thousand votes!

WEBN has pretty much degraded into yet another shock-jock, T&A, pre-adolescent-level FM station, but the Frog still lives.
