A Close Call

Castle Argghhh's Denizen Extraordinaire, Blood Spite had a close call with destiny this morning.  On his way to work, his commute turned into a bone-chilling carnival ride.  In an E-Mail he writes:

4 minutes faster this morning to work and ya'll would have been one less Denizen.

Tornado hit the town I work in, Monett, MO. This is whats left of the Pizza Hut. I was less than 200 meters from it when it hit. My truck got tossed around like a rag doll but I'm ok. Don't know if any fatalities or injuries yet. Pizza Hut demolished. local BBQ joint top ripped off. U Haul all but wiped out and one car lot hammered. Few other places as well. Entire town out of power for over 2 hours and parts of it still are.

Not sure if there is any other damage save for one seriously shaken Denizen.

I'll try to post some pictures and stuff tonight but first I have to call my insurance company, and change clothes heh.

He took the following picture of a local eatery moments after the fateful event:

Here's another picture of the same establishment taken by the local TV station, KSPR:

Thankfully all is well with our brave Denizen.  Our hopes and prayers go to the good people of Monett, MO and hope that all is well with them as well. Go and drop a line over at ®Evil, but please do not be too harsh on him for having soiled his drawers.

Blood Spite, I am so glad you are ok!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand, Boq drops in the zinger at the end!

There is no slack at Castle Argghhh!

Or slacks in this case ;)

Whew!  Thank God for little delays.  *hug*

Happy for your safety!

Indeed good news, BloodSpite!  Hope everyone else in Monett are ok.

No slackers, either.   Glad you're okay Bloodspite!

Shaken and stirred, eh?  *cough*  Well, good to know you weren't hurt.  All I got up here in Springfield was a scrubbed morning bike ride.

When at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX the alert went off and all the locals ran for cover. Us Yankees ran up on the barracks roof to see if we could see it. We didn't know...Yankees aren't very bright some times. At Barksdale one ran right down the far side of the runway, missing the alert BUFFs by a few hundred yards. Thank heavens it wasn't a big one or we'd still be in the swamps looking for those nukes. Wow 1963.

I was at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX back in 1979 when a tornado took out one fifth of the town.  Only downed one tree on base, skipped over us, and hit Lawton, OK severely.  Was in communications school at that time and missed the Morse Code test due to standing anti-looting duty in Wichita Falls.  The Red Cross was on one side of a flattened shopping mall and the Salvation Army was on another side, guess which one was wanting money for stuff and which gave it away free.

Glad you're ok, BloodSprite. Tornado is rarely your friend.

Tornados are only your friend when you are hungry at the gas station...I prefer the chicken and cheese version.

Thanks all,

I have been through 3 major hurricanes, 2 earth quakes and four blizzards. However this was my first up close and personal with a torando, unless you count the waterspout my dad and i watched from the deck of his aircraft carrier in Mayport waayyyyyy back in 1980 when I was still knee high to a grass hopper.

I'm not keen on repeating this experience but I am very glad I bought that storm shelter now.

Fishmugger-
My brother spent all four years of his active duty at Barksdale hell, working on the Buff's.  Saw floods that brought snakes and gaters up to housing from the swamps and creeks, but no twisters.

BloodSpite, you danced with the devil on that one. Glad you didn't have to pay the piper.

Good on ya.
