The Watching Place

The silence in my house reminds me that I was never alone, even though there were times when it felt like it. Not while my battle buddy was there to stick a cold nose on my shins when I least expected it, or snuggle contentedly in my lap as I dozed on the sofa in the evenings.

Or steal my blankets.

There is nothing worse than a cold, wet nose on your shins. Except, perhaps, wishing you could feel that icy cold nose just one more time.

Cassandra, over at Villainous Company, has suffered a loss of a family member.

There's plenty of steak and blankets to steal at Piddler's Green, Sausage.  You'll have new friends - Mojo, Little Girl, Shadow, Ninja, Bella, Sadie, Rest Stop, Gabby, Mickey, Sebastian, Little Guy, Whiskey...  and others.  They'll show you where the good spots are to score a steak from the guys at Fiddler's Green, and who knows how to do a proper tummy rub or who plays a good game of tug-o-war..

They'll show you where the Watching Spot is, so that, every now and then, when your Family is asleep, you can watch -- and if you're very careful, you can lick an ear so softly, they'll think they only dreamed it...

Now is the time at Castle Argghhh! when we dance sing a soul to the Great Hunting Ground and Tennis Ball Chasing Facility at Piddler's Green

An honor roll to beat all honor rolls. May their souls rest in peace and may there be steak bones and plenty of squirrels to chase.

Thank you, John.

*heavy sigh*
Silence can be deafening.  My condolences, Cass.

My condolences as well, Cass. And for the Armorer, if you ever want to start a new blog, you could call it the Poet Major. You have the soul AND writing of a poet-muse, sir.

Rivrdog - as may be, but the best words in this piece - the intro, and about the Watching Spot, belong to Cassandra and Bill.

I just glued 'em together.

Cass, you have been a warrior in good standing. You have lost a fellow warrior in this battle of life. They are good disciplined soldiers, They find their place in this war and fill it. There are no great words. My condolences go to you.

Thank you :)

He was such a manly dog - he filled every day with joy. It does my heart great good to see him remembered.

I hate to hear this Cass.
I'd be lost with Huck, so I can only imagine what your feeling
I hope it gets better, and at least he's not feeling pain and he's with good company aye

oh, bugger all. I'm so sorry.

I know thousands of people I would gladly see go Tango Utah before  the lowliest dog.

"The dog is a gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven, not man's."

Mark Twain's Letter to W.D. Howells, 2 April 1899

What else can be said but "baroooOOOOOooooo"?

A fine and noble Sausage Dog.

My most earnest heartfelt condolences.  I think I'm too flaky to care properly for a dog, but I do love to hang out with a dog.

Condolences, Cass.  But he'll be there, waiting patiently, for you to arrive one day (far in the future).

Sorry to hear it Cassandra.  The pain of the loss means he brought such joy to you.

Goramit, John. You've gone and put something in my eyes and now I can't see right.

Sorry, Cass.

The bestest of friends and noblest of companions, and, when they leave us, the unfillable void.
Here's to companions one day reunited. Til then faithful friend!

So sorry to learn of it, Cass.

Lost mine 7 Feb 2001. We still miss her greatly. My condolence. I understand what you are enduring.

15000 years ago, Man & the Ancestors of our K9 friends made a pact – we would provide shelter, food & warmth – They would provide protection from the dangers that lurked in the darkness – This unspoken & unwritten pact has stood the test of time.

Here’s the words that comforted my wife when we lost our beloved dog “Fudgey”, who was my wife’s protector. Life is not complete without a dog.

—————————————

She is my dog

She is my other eyes that can see above the clouds;
My other ears that hear above the winds.
She is the part of me that can reach out into the seas.
She has told me a thousand times over that I am her reason for being.
By the way she rests against my leg.
By the way she thumps her tail at my smallest smile.
By the way she shows her hurt when I leave without taking her.
When I am wrong, she is delighted to forgive.
When I am angry, she clowns to make me smile.
When I am happy, she is joy abound.
When I am a fool, She ignores it.
When I succeed, she brags.
Without her, I am only another person.
With her, I am all powerful.
She has promised to wait for me…whenever…
In case I need her; and I expect I will—
As I always have.
She is my dog.

Been a bad week all around. Luna Blue's up there to, as of 11 this morning.

I lost Lazarus, my Norwegian Forest Cat 10 years ago, and I still miss that very strange little animal.  Since I inherited him from my Dad, when Dad died, I don't even get to know that Laz is waiting at the Rainbow Bridge, as he is with Dad, I am sure.  Now I'm gonna feel somewhat lonely for a few days..  Animals DO indeed become full family members.

Sorry to hear of your loss, too, Combat Wombat.
