Going to be near Leavenworth today?

C'mon down to the Riverfront Community Center (the old Wabash railroad station on 2nd Street by the river) for the Fort Leavenworth Historical Society Militaria Show.  This is a collector's show - very little of that crap that shows up at gun shows.  Myself and three of my buddies will have a display set up - uniforms, pistols, and I'm bringing... mortars.

Little ones.

If the weather had been better, the Castle Technical would have put in an appearance, but the weather is crap.  I don't have to ride in an open-topped jeep in winter weather anymore... so I choose not do so voluntarily!

Drop on by!

PICTURES!  We demand pictures!

Got word about this late ... ran up but the thing was breaking up. That young guy in the WWII German uniform was the first thing we saw while rounding the corner. Then there was that guy in the WWII Russian Army Zoot Suite was the second.

Got to the place too late maybe half had cleared up. However rounding the corner we came face to face to a guy in a WWII German uniform talking on a cell phone. Kinda got my attention.

I remember waaaaay in Barcelona walking back to the ship after a brief visit to a few adult beverage palaces .. I was rounding a corner (alone) on a foggy night and baaam came face to face with a squad of Spanish soldiers ..... wearing German brain buckets, and jack boots..... rifles slung marching down the street.

It was like I stepped through a time warp. I turned and watched them march off and vanish into the fog.

It was good to get back to the Austin.

I live relatively near so the ever-indulgent wife and I popped over.

I took a few pictures - http://www.svandyke.com/LHSM0210/main_gallery.php

I would have loved to have seen the display and discussed them with you.  Great pics, Mr. KCSteve.  The mortar caught my interest.  My dad told me it was one that you could lay almost flat and fire.  Thank you for this.  My mom forsees much study time here...again.
