Well, long one. Yesterday I picked up the trusty steed with his new front shoes and bumper, and hole in my wallet and this morning hitched up the trailer and rode the Deer-Kill Highway again. This time time there were only three suicide bunnies out trying to die, all of them incompetently failing to do so -or perhaps their hearts just weren't in it.I did the iron-butt thing, hauling the ex-Finn Puteaux 25mm a/t gun down to Austin, Texas, where it will be further transhipped to Australia. That's a gun with some long legs - from France, to Finland, to...

Actually, Fishmugger - the paperwork to ship out is pretty simple, especially if it's not US-origin ordnance and is non-functional. Shipping US-origin stuff out does entail export permits from the State Department, but when you're shipping out non-functional antiques, they don't care that much.

The inbound Customs paperwork on the receiving end, that's a different story. They guy down in Australia is a well-known and experienced collector/dealer and knows how to do things.

Oh, we have our own flat bed trailer - it came with the farm tractor! And, both John and I are used to making long trips in one day. His last couple of years of Active Duty were spent at Ft. Sam Houston - Andy and I stayed here in Leavenworth because I had a good job, Andy was doing well in high school and we had a whole bunch of pets. San Antonio's schools are not known for ... well, academic excellence.

So, about once a month, John would drive home, or I would drive down there.
Drive safe. That ought to be a two day trip, but if WX holds the 725 miles +/- can be done out west where speed limits are generous. Especially if the trailer was a one way rental.
