Thank a VetJimmy Dalton was a young manWhen he was called to raise his handHe went off to warAnd never came home again.Leroy Jones couldn't even voteBut he remembers the bitter coldAnd the long walk home in the snows of a foreign landYou don't know their namesYou don't know who they areThey're the man down the streetOr, that guy in the carThe one that you pass byAnd never even say helloThey're the man in the wheel chairIn...

One can derive GREAT satisfaction if they are able to spot a uniformed military person in a restaurant (preferably with a family member type person with them. The wait staff can usually be convinced that YOU would like to anonymously pick up that party's check. If possible give the wait staff a note "Your chack has been paid by a grateful citizen. Thank you for your service."

You will feel good about doing stuff like that! Especially if they are a very junior enlisted person.

Try it. YOU will like it. More than the monetary amount involved, I believe they are most grateful that someone actually cares, and took a positive step to express that appreciation. Done in the presence of a family member, the message gets thru to them too, as they also serve.
Thank you from a veteran, a former paratrooper and drill sergeant, and current Virginia Defense Force member. (Yes, there are currently organized state militias!) Without the folks back home to support us and love us, we could never have done the job we did. God bless our veterans, and the people who support us.
