Love that salute, girl.

Dear Blogger,
Please enjoy this sneak peak of upcoming material from Archie Comic Publications, Inc.

Archie & Friends meet president obama

President Obama has asked teens to volunteer and Veronica Lodge, the richest girl in comics, has stepped forward to answer the call.

Looky who's enlisted in President Obama's voluntarism program.  Blech.  I liked Archie comics when I was a kid in Germany and we didn't have TV so we read a lot - books and comic books.

Now the creeping feel-goody crap propaganda (as opposed, to, say, mindless entertaining drivel that they used to be) is infecting the comics.   Oh, I know it's been there.  Stan Lee over at Marvel can't restrain himself, and hasn't been able to for decades.  Still it's sad to have a publicist send you a note pushing this drivel (no knock on the publicist, that's her job and she got me to put it up, yes?) only to have it make you remember when comics were just fun (at least the ones I read).  It's like Saturday morning cartoons - once they were great fun, now they're either 30 minute product commericals or treacly crap

Learn to salute, Veronica.  Sheesh.  Poseur.

Considering the clowns running the show in DC, I think it's about time they showed up in the funny books...

Ha you have the same crap on the top of your site every day.

While Veronica may not salute as crisply as a Color Guard Marine, she puts our C-in-C to shame.

You know, with his CROTCH SALUTE and ALL.

Oh, c'mon, Argent, aside from Chris' sometimes over-the-top boob fetish, he pokes fun at his own stereotypes now and again, and doesn't pretend to be anything other than what he is - a political cartoonist.

it started when jerry wasn' t allowed to blow up tom anymore. things went downhill from there! the end of civilisation if you ask me.

You know, I don't come for the gun porn, I come for the literary enrichment. "gezackly!"

I hate the new cartoons (except animaniacs, which was pretty cool).  I hate that Tom and Jerry talked. I hate the the roadrunner couldn't get his butt shot off a half dozen new and interesting ways every 5 minutes.  Bah!  As for Archie, who ever read that garbage anyway except girls and people who had no  TVs and were starved for the real deal...  Heck, even superman was a wuss compared to the old Marvel comics heroes....  Though as you say, the politicisation has ruined all...  I mean care bears?  Ugh!  Barney?!?

Feh, now I'm in an ugly mood....  <snarl>

So... Sanger... tell us how you really feel.

I read Casper, and Richie Rich, and that little devil kid, too...  And Superman, Green Lantern, Batman, Flash, Sergeant Rock, The Haunted Tank...

Sanger - happy to get yer juices roilin'

Oh, and if I may add, where's my Frito Bandito? of Speedy Gonzalez for that matter.

> Sergeant Rock, The Haunted Tank...

Ok, well, yeah.... And thanks for that memory!  I hand't thought about the HT since forever....  And I also like the MetalMen, though I don't think that was DC.  And Green lantern....

BUT none of those other sissy mags..... grrr

And AFSis, that isn't how I REALLY feel' cause I left out the 'cuss words.  :-)

Oh, and Sanger - the Roadrunner *never* got his butt shot off.  At, but not off.  That was the cross Wile E. had to bear!

John, what's wrong with a healthy interest in boobs?

I like boobies... :)

Geeze, John, yer right!!!  I was picturing Wile E. and wrote RR...  I really need a long break at beach or something.  Too much to do, too little time to think about it.

!!!Danger!!! Will Robinson !!!Danger!!!

Oddly enough, Casey, so do I. Just not these..

The more I look at Veronica's Closet Salute, the more it looks like that of The Young Pioneers.

Could she be a fellow commarade?

Not only is he a commendable boob artist, he draws some very nice daire...deria...heinie...BUTTS.

Just an observation.

My young'ns used to sing:

"I hate you, you hate me.
Let's go out and shoot Barney.
With a shotgun blast old Barney hits the floor.
No more purple dinosaur."

Scansion's a bit strained, but, hey, they WERE little people at the time.

And anyway, why does V have her eyes closed....and why isn't she looking at O.  Figure the artist can't to that kind of positional drawing yet...

BTW, my favorite war comic was Sgt Fury (later N.F. of Shield....).  Of course, with the current movie franchise, it'd be hard for them to do WWII flashbacks to him as platoon sgt, eh....  They'd have to have Gabe & Reb be race-reversed (unless it's the Marvel Ultimate Alternate universe, I suppose--and anything is better than Hasslehof as NF)....

When I was a kid, we watched the old Looney Tunes (they were the ones Daddy wanted to watch).

As for comic books, Daddy would also get those.  He'd pick up the Disney ones: Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Uncle Scrooge, that sort of thing.  But, my brother & I couldn't read them until Daddy had ;-)

we're losing focus here folks....  let's get it back on topic:

Betty went campaigning for Sarah Palin, and does SHE get a comic book issue??   Nooooo.  of course not.   (and she even had Maryann from Gilligan's Island along too)

I was never one for comic books, but fav cartoon character was Foghorn Leghorn

"I say, I say boy!  You don't want A chicken...you want A dowg!"

*you thought I was gonna say Popeye, dincha?*

Maggie you do not strike me as the Olive Oil type.  Somehow.

Yes John he loves loves boobs and butts and legs and well possibly pregnancy with his politics.  I wonder if there's a picture of Pelosi-Pallin pr0n just itching to get out of his pen thereby heralding an new age of political B grade horror.  I will grant you his is not pretending to be anything other than political.

RetRsvMike: "Betty went campaigning for Sarah Palin"  News to me, is there a link?

I just checked the seal.

$2.50 for a *comic* book? Suckers used to cost a *dime*!

What's next, two billion bucks for an airplane?

Oh, wait...

(nah, she never really did, but she shoulda!!  ...  and Maryann too!!!))

I notice that the inker chose not to use the color blue for her blouse. Was this done so as not to remind us of another Democrat who recently occupied the White House? Hmmmm.
As for me I happen to like the political toon that heads up your main page. Some of the imagery reminds me of Heavy Metal magazine in the '70s. Now that was a comic book.

Argent, why such a hater? Does the sight of non-obscene female femininity offend you that much? Does it really disturb you that one occasionally sees cleavage, or the uncovered hip in Muir's work?

Or - a la 1965 NBC censors- does the sight of the female navel send you into vapors? :)

Bill, that's why I got out of comics collection a while back. When regular comics started hitting the $1 barrier, I bailed. Same number of pages, same production values, but 'way higher price. Feh.

One may argue that independent comics producers can't reproduce similar economies of scale, so that $1/issue might become acceptable, given a good quality product, such as Groo, or Alien Legion.

Casey: I don't know where you spun your assumptions but really I haven't had such a good laugh in a while.    Oh I'm a regular paragon of virtuous clergydom and must purge the sight of sinful lust inciting flesh!

Either way I don't specifically hate the cartoon.  It would be more accurate to say I think it's crap, ie a waste of time/rubbish.  If i hated it, I would reenable adblocking here.

Casey - Argent's not a hater of that stuff, he's just not interested in the way you are.

Argent - Shhhhh!!!!  I'm selling ads now (it pays reporter expenses) - what you said is... is... BAD!  [Looks worriedly over shoulder]  Move along BAE folks, there's nothing to see here [glares at Argent].

Well, Argent, I guess it comes from you making a connection to some sort of hypothetical "Pelosi-Pallin[sic] pr0n" from the stuff Muir actually draws, not to mention your self-evident disdain for the strip (pun intended!).

But, if John vouches for you, and says my POV is skewed, that's a fair go from where I stand. :)

John, I do not have some sort of soft-core fascination with Chris Muir's work, even I if I do have a thing for half-clad busty redheads. After all, he's never drawn Christina Hendricks. Yet. {heavy sigh}

Hey. I read daybyday for the articles, mister, thankyouverymuch.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it...

No worries Casey, unfortunately my sense of humour is rather obscure.

John BAE is a lot better than the junk usually found on websites, even those that are relatively clean.
