hey- I didn't say that her desire to drop the charges gives him a free pass... just that her desire is the ONLY thing going in his favor, that he is an admitted child molester.. and SCREW 'EM. I fully believe he should serve his sentence.

I will say this: She might be tired after 30 years of this man being at large. Forgiveness though, doesn't mean you forget. What it means is that you are at peace and can move on. It does not, nor ever, mean that exoneration is part of the plan. Two totally different things, as are restitution and restoration. Polanski paid her restitution, but he still needs to serve time for what he did. We call that 'justice.'

The issue isn't whether or not he shouldn't be tried because his victim has forgiven him -- the issue is that he admitted his guilt and had a sentence imposed, then he fled to avoid serving his sentence.

A pundit that I saw yesterday had an interesting point in reference to this. It's all fine and well that the victim has "forgiven", but what Polanski did is still, and was, a crime, and the charges were brought against him by the STATE OF CALIFORNIA, in the name of the people of CA.

When I saw and heard Jewell's husband on "Dancing with the Stars" last year, I thought.... "I like this woman! She's totally hot, famous and talented... yet she is completely in love with a good ol' boy!"

I like her even more now.

The only think going in Polanski's favor is that the girl involved, now in her 40's, wanted to have the charges dropped. Otherwise, he's an admitted child molester. Screw 'em.
