There Were Seven

Yesterday, the Ecuadorian Air Force celebrated its 89th Birthday.  To blow out its candles, their Air Force had a pass in review of its 7 brand spanking new Drhuv HAL Helicopters, at Quito's Main Air Force Base.  Amongst all the pomp and circumstance, the Air Force Commandant, Gen. Rodgrigo Bohórquez beamed with pride on their new acquisition.

He stated:
The arrival of the new Indian made Drhuv helicopters mark a new horizon for our rescue aviation... and with cutting edge technology that is making it possible great strides in our capacity for search and rescue and support in case of disaster... These helicopters feature all weather flying capabilities.

And he concluded:
We aviators look into the past to important deeds only to obtain important lessons so as not to repeat the same errors again.  But we are not burdened by it (the past), because life is too short and we have seen many of our good friends perish in the past.

Queue-in the pass-in-review:

... And now there are Six.

(BTW - The two pilots while injured, are in stable condition at the Military Hospital)

Glad they're OK... and *love* that shark-mouthed Beech 34!!!

And they walked away from it!!!!!

Oh look, the honour guard is using FN FAL's!

Now that's just a bit too much irony for me for one day....

I actually feel sorry for them all, just a bit.   Kind of alike a small town losing one of it's new police cars an' all.

And yeah, me too, I'm glad the pilots are ok, though I expect they kind of wish they weren't, especially if they know it was their fault....

Good thing they had 6 other SAR choppers on hand!

Ditto on the new police car thing.  On the bright side, it appears the crash fire rescue guys got the afff going pretty quickly.
