Fast Pedal For War Fatigue

Last night, our Commander in Chief made a photo op out of his midnight visit to Dover Air Force Base. Why such a public display of grief over the repatriation of our dead? Sure, it will be said that he as Commander in Chief, has the solemn responsibility to render honors to those whom he ordered into battle. I on the other hand, contend that by making such a public display, he leads the charge in turning our country against our efforts in our War On Islamic Extremist *no-no* Global War On Terror *no-no* Man Made Foreign Contingency Tuggy Felings Operations.

Will he also meet with the families?  The real "bar" was set very high by the former President who went out of his way to meet with very many of the families - you know, those who could still talk to him and maybe say things that were difficult to hear.  It took a big man to do what President Bush did.  Will this guy have what it takes to do that?   If he has time between rounds of golf and whining about the last administration and all, that is.

You know I don't really like my current leader but I wouldn't disparage him without good evidence for making a similar visit.  It rubs off on those who served too much and it would irritate me more that he chose not to go.

Meeting with the families I agree is a good thing.  There is much he needs to hear but will he listen?

A silly question, Boquisucio.  This is Barry Lackwit we're talking about.  He makes a photo-op out of everything.  If he can't find a way to make himself look good while doing it, he doesn't do it.

obama has the right to be there as the commander in chief.

that said......

turning this into a photo op shows one thing. nothing is off limits for "the one" to to use to promote himself. this will backfire.

Well, my mother told me to always say something nice.

The President's saluting form is much better than the soldier he's standing next to.

I don't mind him going, and I don't mind him meeting the families.  All in his job description.

But, admittedly not being a fan, I wonder if he chose that casket because that's the family that allowed photographers?

Unworthy thoughts, perhaps, but I would have thought the same thing about President Bush in similar circumstances.  Except he didn't allow them.

It may be unworthy, but I had a similar thought - did he render honors to every casket as it passed him?  His propensity for 'looking Presidential' without actually acting that way is far too well demonstrated.

I am a mom of an Army soldier serving now and I lost an Army son as a result of a non-combat accident while serving and when I saw this on Foxs News this morning it made me sick.  I immediately thought "photo op."  I believe President Obama positioning himself in the line with the soldiers is totally misplaced.  I know he is the Commander of our troops but I believe he should respect his position as the Commander.  His place should have been compassionately with the family without photos if he truly wanted to extend condolences.  Even if the family gave the consent for the photos, his place was by the side of the family. 

Personally, I would not have allowed the press or photos or this President to be present if one of my boys were brought home in this manner. 

Nothing President Obama does is short of a photo op which in this situation is very disrespectful.

I agree with Jean and others here. But even after saying that, I have to get down to what really bothers me about Obama (other than his fakeness and his dependence on others words and ideas), it is that he- by his words, deeds, history, aquaintances and friends  he just does not love America.

He just doesn't.

According to the known timeline, Obama was working on his "memoir" or autobiography, Dreams From My Father, shortly after Clinton won the presidency in 1992. Obama would have been 31 or 32 years old at this point, and just 3 years after having graduated from Harvard Law School, with no career or professional experience to speak of.

WHO writes a memoir or autobiography at 31, with little to no history?

And what major national publisher advances enough money to finance a trip to Bali for such a person so that he can write the thing?

Besides the hubris and arrogance this demonstrates on the part of Obama, it just sounds fishy and contrived. Like he was already positioning himself for the office ... or being groomed by others for it.

And isn't it incongruous that a young 31 year old black male who rails against the American system because he believes it is so inherently racist that other young black males could never hope to be equal with their white peers, nevertheless believes that he, himself, can indeed someday become president?

First let me say... you're a brave woman, and a proud mother.  I'm so very sorry for your loss.  Your perspective is interesting, and something I hadn't thought about  before:  why wasn't he standing with the families, instead of with the Soldiers?  Interesting angle.

I have a hard time pegging it as a complete photo opp, but it was certainly on purpose.

I really don't know what his underlying reason was for going.... but at least he's showing proper respect.  Like John, I also noticed his much-improved salute.  Some have said 'I wonder if he saluted for all of the coffins".  Don't know, and unless the other families speak up, we won't know for sure.  My gut is telling me yes, he did.  I have also read that he did, in fact, speak to the families.

I don't believe for a minute that he "gets" military families or the military in general, but I find it hard to be too critical of his presence last night.  If he never does it again, then we know for sure it was just a photo opp.  Until then, I'm willing to be open-minded, and will just leave it at "he knew pictures and video would be taken, but I don't think that was the entire reason he was there."

Well if it were someone else, I would probably say this was not a photo op. But with it being The Won, it most certainly is. Why would you let any press in on this at that time of the night if it weren't meant to be an op. If this was a sincere move on his part, he should have gone to Dover, paid his respects to the Fallen Soldiers and their Families and flown back th D.C. without cameras there to document his support of our Military. My personal vote.....FAKE....FAIL

I agree with others here, I will not attack the man for doing what CinC would normally do.

That being said....  If we were not already bombarded with all the evidence we have that he is not the Hope and Change that we all   52% of us voted for, would there be any questions about this at all?

My hope is this:  Regardless of the circumstances, whether genuine or "photo op," that got him there, the experience itself will perhaps help to sink home to him that the decisions he makes affects individuals from all walks of life, and not everything is something for him to benefit from personally.

only one family out of eighteen---that says it all.   I would like to know when the families were asked.  And if BO would have appeared at all if all the families said no.   And I agree with a comment from Blackfive's---why doesn't the form have a box for what the soldier wants??  I love my daughters-in-law, but would their decision trumph ours as parents of soldiers?   My first thought was, "photo op".

Oldloadr, I'm not certain I would classify that as 'optimism.'  I think I would just say hope, without actually expecting it.

In fact, my hopes are becoming more dashed as of this morning, reading Cap'n Ed's story this morning on questions about Real Media Outlets quietly changing the story on this, without explanation or editorial retraction.

Even though I'm a pretty partisan guy and a certified News Junkie (hey, I don't follow any sports and could care less about celebrity gossip, gotta do something with my time!), I still always try to give the benefit of the doubt and not be critical of someone just because they are on the "other" team.  But this Administration is proving over and over, day after day, that their best interests are not in the best interest of me, and I seriously fear not in the best interest of this nation.

Mike - no, you don't have to be touchy-feely - but scatalogical imagery and pointless profanity do things like... get your blog flagged by net-nanny software and gov't/corporate content filters so that your target audience can't get to you any more.  They may make you feel good, but they scare away the normals.

Nothing wrong with being critical - but you do have an obligation to remember this is a public space, not just the two of us hanging around the water cooler.

For the record, Mike, all caps are hard to read, while breathless hatred is hard to digest.  We all agree with some of what you wrote, I'd guess, so there's no need to yell all of that McCarthy-esque stuff at us.  It makes for unpleasant "oh no-it's-him-again" reading....

Also, Obama is by far not the first president to use the media to his advantage to manipulate the public (actually that kudo would have to go to TR, who started using the press to his advantage even before he was elected to high office), and Obama won't be the last.  In fact, IMO, one of the problems of the Bush Administration was the lack of media control, which is why Rumsfeld kept ending up a topic of discussion....  he should have been muzzled very early on.

   I'm really sorry, but I just can't read all of that (all caps is hard on the eye), but I get the gist....  

   That said, I'll also say that, fortunately, I was NOT in the generation where an NCO would assault you for the fun of it, just to prove he could.  All of my NCOs were former Vietnam vets except for the very occassional Korea vet; and except for the few MacNamara's 100,000 guys, they were all generally pretty decent folks.  Not really into having to prove they were old-movie-stye Jack Webb DI tough-guys.  And I never had to strike a sober subordinate to make him or her do what was needed.   It just wasn't required in my day.

   And re: the hater comment, well, I calls 'em like I see 'em.  All of what you wrote just wasn't necessary or correct, and I found it a bit over the top and more than a little hateful.  If you think I need to toughen-up, that's ok.  I'd say in response you need to take a deep breath and enjoy the good of the world too.  It really isn't all going to end in 2012, or next month, and all of those people you excoriated with such vile commentary are still, after all, doing what they deem best.  They may not feel about things the way you or I do, but that doesn't mean I agree with all what you wrote either.  And I don't think  the solution to our current administration is mayhem, murder, and the sorts of things you seem to think are our only recourse.  I'm sorry, but I just don't feel the need to bolt the door and take up arms against the government.  Not yet, at least.

And finally, I like Patton a lot, but he didn't use foul words to shake the enemy to the core, he did it to scare American soldiers and because he was a crass egomaniac.  I tend to cuss a lot, too, but I do try not to indulge around people I don't know or among folks who'd rather not hear it.

well done sangerm-this is america and i hope you can read this without the caps on.yeah i know patton thought he was a roman in a past life.he didnt really have an ego just a hot quick temper and when you have slugs flying in all directions and you have blood on your lips you would- just couldnt blame patton for cussing -in my book it's not about degrading but mently preparing one for the worse.for some it works and for others it dont.the russians still prepare soldiers with this method  a method we used in the past.anyway i'm far from a warmonger i never said a damm thing about loading up for a war here and yeah we'll still be able to relax in our lazy boy chairs in 2012 or whenever but if we dont wake up and use our vote then our children will have the freedom to do nothing.our freedom can be took away without a bullet it's so fragile but most of us think that these things can never happen in america because we are so in to ourselves with our freedom.we depend so much on technology today take away that and what do we have.anyway i dont hate nothing but commie's and nazi's and believe me i'll never bolt up my door that's really funny.

Yeah! and Obama will have them signed and numbered and Al Gore will show a  tear calling it the "greatest picture" since George Washington posed for his painting. then the Clinton clan will give a smirk and then Nancy Pelosi will be jumping and clapping non-stop till her escorts kindly get her away from the spotlight.we'll see what happens and dont be shocked if it all comes true.i mean they already got some school kid's singing about their Dear Leader Obama.no not in North Korea but  right here in the U.S.A. believe it or not in congress a Zealot wrote a bill that would extend the number of terms a President can serve From 4 to 6.i dont believe it'll ever pass but think about it and if you dont believe me i'll kindly look it back up and show you.I'M A LIFETIME N.R.A MEMBER and they keep me informed on stuff like that.everyone who owns a gun should join the N.R.A why because they Fight for your Rights and your Freedom.
