Why, yes, Virginia...

...platoon tactics taught in a classroom *is* boring.

Mizzou ROTC cadets suffer through a boring bit on Platoon Tactics in the 1970s

Going through the Auld Soldier's photo albums, here's a shot of we ROTC cadets in the early 70's...  some things don't change.  Give 'em better hair and new uniforms... and platoon tactics taught in a classroom is still platoon tactics taught in a classroom and will still put you in MEGO* status.

Hangovers are rough.  LOL

Eerily reminiscent of Preflight as a WOC. Now that was so boring for a budding birdman.

What, you  mean she's not screaming with excitement?

They look like the Mod Squad

Heh.  Lousy group of Sergeants you guys would make.

There is a glaring uniform faux pas there not involving the womyn who is sans uniform.

gotta love those bi-directional epaulets.

Glaring uniform deficiencies? They're ROTC's. We were likely bloody glad to have them on board in the '70's. We could fix em later.

Master Allison - why fix them later when you can lead them in the here and now?

"What, you mean she's not screaming with excitement?"

She's practicing for the dental exam that afternoon?

JoA: wasn't leadership back then of the Carter style?

I wouldn;t know a good uniform if it caught on fire.  I only really notice Mr Boofhead on the right (D??s) has varies bitties missing that Mr Combover has present.  However this could be ROTC ranking.  Also the nametag is on their right which is unusual (at least in Aussie civil terms); maybe the image is reversed.

Oh and Ms Yawn's two fillings might not be regulation standard.  I sure as hell hope her top isn't.

hmm scatch that can't be reversed now can it?

Well, aside from the kid on the right missing his brass and a unit crest (left shoulder), both uniformed kidlets have their rank tabs reversed.

And young lady, just *where* is your tie?!?

In a previous life I was an enlisted man.  All that the knuckle heads in my ROTC detachment wanted to know is if I had shot somebody during my time in the Box.  Nothing quite like playing squad mother to a bunch of, at the time anyway, naive 18-19 yr old college kids still ensconced firmly in the civilian world.

Yes, there were female cadets in the time frame in question.   And we were held to uniform standards, too.   (In fact, I still have my 'jackie o' pillbox hat around here somewhere).   But it seemed that MOST of the females enrolled in ROTC back in the day were there because they want to be Army WIVES, not Army officers.
