In the Army, we are very grateful to our allies for their dedication to the fight. Our comrades-in-arms often endure the same sacrifices as our own Soldiers, and deserve some recognition for their hard work and service. This week, the Army would like to recognize our brother soldier who was killed in an act of true honor, who very much deserves the title of Hero.

Pvt. Jason Williams, 23, was killed by a home-made bomb on Saturday - the 196th British KIA in Afghanistan since 2001. He was taking part in an operation to secure an area where three Afghan National Army soldiers were killed earlier in the day. One of the dead could not be found and the UK troops were trying to prevent the body falling into the hands of insurgents. Lt. Col. Simon Banton - of 2nd Battalion the Mercian Regiment in which Jason served - yesterday said Afghan soldiers now called him a hero for his "selfless sacrifice".

The commanding officer continued: "On the day he died, Jason was taking part in an action which adhered to every soldier's oldest code - leave no man behind."His brave determination and commitment to his brothers in arms ensured that the Afghan warrior's family are able to pay their proper respects to their own fallen son."

For his gallantry in action and selfless sacrifice, Pvt. Jason Williams is this week's Warrior-Soldier.
