Too Many Ticks On That Hog

No wonder we are broke. The recently retired fire chief Pete Nowicki, of the Orinda-Moraga Fire District is drawing an annual pension of $241,000.00 not only for the rest of his natural life, but the natural life of his direct survivors. On top of that he is drawing a $176,000.00 as a consultant to the fire district he just stopped directing. The total draw from the people of California is: $417,000.00 per year. And that’s not including health care and other sundry perks.

Not a bad gig if you can get it; but for us taxpayers the sad part is that like Mr. Norwicki, there are many more like him that suckle on this Public Hog.

        Yeah, it looks excessive.

But, given the risks the guy took on my behalf, and my family's, risks like of contracting cancer at a rate 5x(if not 100x) higher than the general population, I'm not gonna begrudge him that----and it's my Mom and three sibs who are paying the state taxes to fund the guys pension. I'm not going to begrudge him that anymore than I would begrudge Armorer his Army pension and Disability(or Auld Vet's, or Unka Bill's---particularly Unka Bill's since the old phart is never gonna die, well, at least outlive me anyway.). The dude took the HIGH risks in the service of others, living on shiite early on, and now he gets the benefits. That's a fair trade. Just like it is for all Service Personell who get benefits after only 20 years(20 years!) of work that private sector folks would slay their mother and sell their left testicle/ovary to get.

He earned it. And, really, that's not that outrageous compared to someone of comparable status in a private company or a university. He's about the level of a Senior VP or a Chancellor of a college.

A better target, imo, is the pension state senators get. THe @#%^rds haven't earned a single dime of it as far as I'm concerned. Service Personell, well, they earned it. They took the big risks.

This is not so unusual...accoring to pension contracts among civil servants, their retirement is based on the last one or two years, not a 401K or b or other calculation. They then run up their salary by putting in for major overtime. You should see some of the last year salaries for NYC cops and NJ staties. Then they retire with full pension and can start a new career. Our taxes are way huge. NJ is numero uno when it comes to a tax burden. We didn't have any Proposition 13.

Oldloadr, the reason why inflation is obscene is because of taxes. Bad money drives out good. Then there is the 'lifestyle.'

Here is a conundrum: In this economy, people are out of work, cutting back and feeling the pinch. Naturally, public servants need to be fed too, so guess what the local and state governments did here?
Raised property taxes because 'services' were going to be cut. Well, dang. DUH. Now prices have gone up because less money is going around. Gee..ya think?

Of course we can't forget that, in California, $100,000 a year barely lets you live indoors and eat regularly. In fact, I just went to this site: http://cgi.money.cnn.com/tools/costofliving/costofliving.html and found that an annual salary in Sumter, SC of $150,000 would equal, in Los Angeles, CA: $232,481. Now, I'm not saying his retirement and other perks aren't too much, but, think about it; in a place that is already that exspensive, other people's money (namely, the taxpayers) looses value in that context.

I am sure this good public servant just obeyed the law, and showed up for work and took advantage of the benefits afforded him by a grateful state.

I envy his good fortune, and only begrudge him a little of it. Well, actually, a lot.

However, the fracking idiot politicians who set up this system are to be unforgiven. They should be driven out of office at the earliest opportunity. Use of pitchforks, torches, tar, feathers, and noose level encouragement might be excused under these mitigating circumstances.

The laws allowing this sort of retirement scheme are O-B-S-C-E-N-E!

Unfortunately, it seems that many of Kalifornia's public employees are under systems like this, and hold immense power over the scummy pandering politicians.

This ourtrage probably is only slightly worse than that enjoyed by our Congresscritters.

Worse, there is a good chance that tax dollars from all over the U.S. will be confiscated and given to Kalifornia for expenses like this.
