            <title>Today&apos;s Medal of Honor Moment for 1 July</title>
            <description><![CDATA[1&nbsp;July is a very busy day for the Medal in the 19th Century.&nbsp; During this time the Medal of Honor was the only available option,&nbsp; so many of the Medals awarded during the 1863-1900 era would be Bronze Stars, Silver Stars, and Distinguished Service Cross/Navy Cross&nbsp;today.&nbsp; As usual - we start with the Civil War and the two big battles occurring on July 1st - Malvern HIll and Gettysburg.5&nbsp;Medals for this day at Malvern Hill, 1862&nbsp; Even though McClellan won this fight, which capped the back and forth slaughter of the Seven Days, he allowed it to stop his further...]]></description>

                <![CDATA[The date I thought incorrect is the date of the Act of Congress authorizing the Medal of Honor.&nbsp; Teddy was awarded the medal by President Clinton in 2001.&nbsp; Sorry for any confusion.&nbsp; I'll google first next time.<br />]]>

                <![CDATA[The date of Teddy's award in the post is obviously wrong.&nbsp; I'm courious when it was awarded.&nbsp; The description in the citation is so very different form the others awarded during the battle.&nbsp; Was this award given later or does this citation mark a change in the length and detail of citations similar to what we are used to in the 20th century?<br />]]>
