Some Kudos for Some Good Folks

The Big Names who go on the USO tours seem to get all the coverage in the MSM -- and I'm including Stars & Stripes in that category -- but for every one of the above-the-title stars who appear in theater (as opposed to The Theatre), there are a bunch of folks who have had a bit more than their five minutes of fame who come here merely to say "Hiya" to the troops.

Appearing tonight, live in the DFAC, direct from a Meet'n'Mingle in the MWR tent: Don Shula, Warrick Dunn, a couple of the below-the-title stars of Wedding Crashers and The Boyfriend, about eight TV sitcom familiar faces, and The First-Ever "Hooters Girl" from the First-Ever Hooters. They spent more time tonight shaking hands and chatting with the troops than two Household Name politicians did -- *combined* -- during their various visits over here.

So, next time you bump into someone wearing a red "USO" T-shirt that looks like it's seen a few sandstorms, smile and say, "Somebody told me where you got that, and why. Thank you."

And, no, I didn't bother them -- by the time I got to chow, they were finally getting the chance to sit down and have something to eat.

Besides, I think I scared the Hooters chick. She kept *staring* when i walked past ...

*grinnnnn*

Must have been the 27-inch zipper :-)

And to the point of the post, thanks for reminding us of the many good folks who get little recognition.  Reminds me of something else needing to be posted ...

 Unka Bill,
I thought you scared newbie pilots and "Angels," (and of course, the enemy!) But scaring the Hooters girl? Bad pilot, bad pilot!

On second thought, keep it up. We old infantrymen like to see helicopter pilots scare people.  ;)

Uhhhhh, ackshully, I think it was the shaved pate, the Cossack 'stache, the Pakistani bush hat, the ballistic shades, and the "Yeah, there's a sandstorm out there" scarf around my neck.

Visualize Lamont Cranston -- in khaki.

With broader shoulders...

Another batch of good folk who don't get much recognition are those who've been manning the "greet the troops home" lines since the beginning of this war.

Hey, i'll even say "THANK YOU" to Bill, for reporting this, and for putting his own butt on the line over there for longer than most of us can remember.

Go geezers!

The same bunch are coming here to Bagram tomorrow...I don't think Leann Tweeden is the original Hooters girl, but she did work for them.

Sorry boss.  Gonna have to skip the weekly office update.  Got Don Shula and a pretty girl down at the USO.

I'll have to waterboard my source to make sure.

He said she was the first one hired, but he's been known to err -- he once made the mistake of trying to out-ribald Fire Pixie. During chow. While she was eating a banana.

Imagine the diner scene from When Harry Met Sally with Meg Ryan using a visual aid...

Go geezers!

Ummmmmm -- thanks?
