Weekend work on the Castle Range Complex

As mentioned on Sunday, SWWBO and I went to see the new Disney-Pixar movie, Up.  Worth the money.  Made us damp-eyed, twice.  The lead-in short was good, better than most people can produce, but not, to us at least, the thigh-slapping funny their previous short subjects have been.  Ad tag line: "Pixar - our sucky stuff is light years better than your best!"

We'll be getting this when it hits DVD.

This weekend saw two range-related things out at the Castle.  First - new signage, the idea for which was shamelessly stolen from Theospark.

New range limit markers at Castle Argghhh!

And, with the installation of the new 60 yard target stand, we needed a range table out at the edge of the hill, else the new target would only be usable from the deck.  So, Firing Point Three has been established.  Firing Point One is the deck.  Firing Point Two is under the deck, mostly used for shooting the M1919A4.  Now, with Firing Point Three, we're getting a little more variety in the range.  Now that I have a stand design that works, I can put in new points simply by installing more pipe to hold the stands.  I may clear some of the brush on the far side of the hill, to get a 100 yard target in.  That one will end up having us use the Ranger to service the target, as the straight approach will be very steep and rocky.

I'll finish out the table with raised edges, so loose cartridges and such don't roll off, and two rifle holders.

John...were you leaning, or is the sign leaning?

Also: the "The Range is Hot" lights should be plummed I think.

The post the sign is on is leaning.  In a previous life it was a fence post.  Now it's a piece of Castle Kitsch, a leaning fencepost on a hill.

And those are SWWBO's Halloween lights.  Some people leave their Christmas lights up all year.  Not SWWBO.  She leaves her orange Halloween lights up!

ry got his tab?

And if anyone is looking for endorsements - that is one versatile little vehicle.

John...you can write a letter to Winchester, or Colt, or Smith & Wesson and maybe their Marketing Dept will send you stickers for it. Or the Army...they could sponsor you. Although it may start looking like something Junior would drive at Daytona.

NASCAR snark warning!

Fishmugger, the Ranger in Low Range would probably be faster than anything Junior has driven lately at ANY track....

I am green with envy re your range.  When JC and 'Chelle get out of the Corps, I am STRONGLY lobbying that they buy a place in the country with enough room and proper topography for ranges  (and they know that mom will be there often LOL.)

BTW.   If you know of any ladies who would be interested.  Women on Target in Topeka still has openings for the annual range day on 6/20.    Loaner weapons, ammo and lunch for $25 - a BARGIN - handguns, shotgun, muzzleloaders and archery.   Registration closes on the 6th, though.
