Getting into this late.
Those ARE some big ol' plug wires, upon reading that I had to wonder if this was some sort of "fuel distributor" that some older Volkswagens used. This side, it's still hard to be certain it's not, the ends of the "wires" still almost look like braided-shield hoses. Either way, the "distributor" is on the wrong side of the engine to be any Ford I'm familiar with, where it's right for Jeeps. Plus, the "wires" are in the proper firing order for any 4-cyl except air-cooled VWs (1-3-4-2). Also, no "coil wire," and it doesn't look big enough to have an integrated coil like HEI GMs, or some Asain imports do. Hard to make out, but I think I can see some hard lines coming into that general area, leading me to think it actually IS an early mechanical fuel injection system.
Moving to the air cleaner, it's freakin' HUGE for a 4-cyl. At the intake end, that doesn't appear to be any sort of carburator I'm familiar with, and for that matter, I don't really make out any traditional intake manifold.
Overall, obviously a vehicle, truck-sized, left drive (almost missed the steering gearbox on first glance but did see it eventually). I think I'll go with diesel powered as well. Other than that, I have no clue!
