D-Day, a note from a friend

Heartless Libertarian is deployed to Afghanistan with CJTF-82. This was in his mailbox this morning. It will remain on top all day. Heartless Lib intro'd the note thusly:

"Smack is often talked about France, sometimes alluding to them being unthankful for America's efforts in WWI and II.

This was sent to the entire Division HQ this morning:"

"To Combined Joint Task Force 82,

65 years ago, at 2h30 (French Local time), you jumped from hundreds of DAKOTAS in the dark skies over Normandie in order to liberate France and Europe.

That D-Day, you wrote the most glorious page of your history and the name of your Division is forever famous in France.

That D-Day, you and the allied forces met their rendezvous with destiny.

6 June 2009, Afghanistan; we are still brothers in arms.

We will never forget what you did on D-Day.

In the name of all the French soldiers embedded with CJTF-82, thank you for what you have done.

Today, in celebration of those events 65 years ago, we are "All Americans."

Airborne!

Ltc Pierre V.
French LNO

As has been said of every civilized country in the world: It is the policies of the government which which I disagree, not the valor of her armed forces... Yes, even the Wehrmacht was famed for its martial prowess, and the Soviet Army for its tenacity...

The fortitude and fighting hearts of the soldiers of the Forces armées françaises have never been in doubt. Even when the rest of us were trying to puzzle the strategies of their leadership, we never cast aspirations on the abilities of the French private soldier.

I hope that I got it right:

Bonne chance, mes frères! Pouvons nous nous souvenir toujours du sang que nous avons répandu comme les alliés dans la protection de liberté!

(Good luck, my brothers! May we always remember the blood we have shed together in the defense of freedom!)
