A stand-alone Medal of Honor Moment for 8 June

It's not unusual in wartime for the Medal of Honor to be presented by someone other than the President. Well, not unusual for Korea and earlier. For Vietnam-era awards and later, it's pretty much been a Presidential moment.Except for one. Navy Captain William McGonagle, who earned his Medal of Honor 8 June, 1967. Captain McGonagle received his Medal from the Secretary of the Navy in a little noted ceremony at the Washington Navy Yard.On the official US government website for the Medal of Honor, where I get the citations from, Captain McGonagle's Medal is listed in the Vietnam War awards...

Slightly biased but "Assault on the LIberty" by James M. Ennes Jr. is a good source for
this. He was an officer aboard when attack happened.
Short version, Isreal needed more time to attack Syria after defeating Egypt and didn't
want a UN ceasefire. So they removed the intel gathering ship.

                Dear Grimmy.....

BS.. as revealed by the electronic intercepts, and the actions which have been verified by Navy personnel on the scene, the Israelites absolutely, positively, KNEW they were attacking an unarmed American Navy ship in international waters.

Delve a little deeper and the demonic collusion, ignorance or treason committed by our govt becomes, sadly, all too clear.

The Israelites, knowingly, deliberately, murdered our fellow servicemen. End of story.

The politicians, both theirs and most despicably ours, covered it up.

I'll take the word of a fellow serviceman over that of a bought and paid for politician any day.

The crew of the USS Liberty deserve an honest accounting, and those responsible for her fate deserve a spot in the defendants box, and hopefully, a justly deserved reservation at the gallows.
Pulled from long term memory storage, but...

It was explained to me, once upon a time, by folk who's job it was to know nuances and such, that the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty was motivated by bad intel. Intel that had been provided to the Israelis by some NATO "partners".

The Israelis had been purposely led to believe that the USS Liberty was a Soviet spy ship aiding the arabs.
