Who lives next door to you?

One of the reasons I started the blog was to let people know that the people living next door to you weren't always what they seem.

In my case - it was the gun collector. In reality a fairly normal kind of guy, which isn't always they way it comes across in the news.

In Midlothian, in the United Kingdom, that person is a songbird.

1SG Keith signs off his emails with this tagline:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take. It's measured by the moments that take your breath away.

Some moments are moments of transcendence. The moment you realize the love of your life returns that emotion, the birth of a child, the smile of the grandchild, the purr of a cat who knows you are in pain, the paw of the dog sitting next to you on the little hill, as she leans in close.

And, every now and then, Simon Cowell isn't an ass.

Thank you Susan Boyles, of Midlothian, England - for that moment. And make no mistake - it was your moment. Even if nothing else comes your way - you had this. And shared it with us.

H/t to Boquisucio for finding a link I could actually watch over my connection.

Too many people judge a gift by the wrappings, the box it comes in, the hallmark on the bottom or the label on the case. . It's not how it's wrapped, how it's packedm or who made it. It's what's inside that counts, how it makes you feel, and that was a truly wonderful gift.
And if you don't know the lyrics, check them out in context of what we know about her... Wow!

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life woth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving.

Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used
And wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung
No wine untasted.

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dream to shame.

And still
I dream he'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms
We cannot weather...

I had a dream my life would be
So different form this hell I'm living
so different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed
The dream I dreamed.

Btw, there's a higher-quality recording here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Il5TBgD9kHI
