Who lives next door to you?

One of the reasons I started the blog was to let people know that the people living next door to you weren't always what they seem.

In my case - it was the gun collector.  In reality a fairly normal kind of guy, which isn't always they way it comes across in the news.

In Midlothian, in the United Kingdom, that person is a songbird.

1SG Keith signs off his emails with this tagline:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take. It's measured by the moments that take your breath away.

Some moments are moments of transcendence.  The moment you realize the love of your life returns that emotion, the birth of a child, the smile of the grandchild, the purr of a cat who knows you are in pain, the paw of the dog sitting next to you on the little hill, as she leans in close.

And, every now and then, Simon Cowell isn't an ass.

Thank you Susan Boyles, of Midlothian, England - for that moment.  And make no mistake - it was your moment.  Even if nothing else comes your way - you had this.  And shared it with us.

H/t to Boquisucio for finding a link I could actually watch over my connection.

Wow, wow.  The absolute best thing is that her voice isn't just technically laudable, it has a wonderful character and a tone that is uniquely hers and a joy to listen to. Just wonderful.

And if you don't know the lyrics, check them out in context of what we know about her...  Wow!

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life woth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving.

Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used
And wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung
No wine untasted.

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dream to shame.

And still
I dream he'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms
We cannot weather...

I had a dream my life would be
So different form this hell I'm living
so different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed
The dream I dreamed.

Btw, there's a higher-quality recording here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Il5TBgD9kHI

When she finished and turned and walked off of the stage, you just knew in your heart that the dream had been fulfilled.  She had shown a lifetime of bullies what elegance was and what it looked like to have a dream fulfilled....

Thank you, Susan Boyle, for reminding us all.

Great point, Flag Gazer--she didn't come there to be fulfilled by the approval of the judges; that was just icing.  Once she'd sung and gottten that reaction from the audience, it was over in her mind.

That lady has no idea how many hearts she's filled. I've sent her out on 2 blasts, plus people in my company, friends and both my daughters.

I would love to give her a big hug.

Too many people judge a gift by the wrappings, the box it comes in, the hallmark on the bottom or the label on the case. . It's not how it's wrapped, how it's packedm or who made it. It's what's inside that counts, how it makes you feel, and that was a truly wonderful gift.

   Thank you, indeed, Miss Susan.

The _look_ on the judges' faces:  PRICELESS!!!!

Thank you indeed, Miss Susan!!!

Awe-inspiring, and jaw-dropping.

Lovely voice, the prejudement was embarassing.

" ... the prejudement was embarassing."

Argent, my thoughts exactly.  IMHO, it demonstrated the myth of the alleged "tolerance" and "sophistication" level of our European cousins.

Another "Paul Potts" moment for Great Britain.  Having been nick-named "Shrek" and "Tank", I have appreciated the look on the faces of those who didn't know I was a professionally-trained vocalist.  I am always thrilled to see what God chooses to do with "the least of these".  If you do not know Paul Potts - google him and listen to his performance in his year of Britain's Got Talent.  Striking!!  ML

Note for the assembled masses:  "Shrek" and "Tank" are *apt* monikers.

You do *not* want to walk behind this guy if he's wearing a pink turtleneck.

Which he used to do, until I abused him out of it.

I saw that and it thrilled me to sit and listen to her.  I was sort of hoping for a shot of the heavily made up girl who was rolling her eyes...after the makeup had run off because of the tears.

I saw it day before yesterday.  I was struggling with a math paper (defend yourself in solving a problem you have never done before with methods you taught yourself from the text) and it hit me at the right time.  Her performance, her confidence and her graciousness in her victory are unforgettable.  Thank you, Susan.  There IS more to you and the best is yet to be.
