Statement of President Barack Obama on Release of OLC Memos

Statement of President Barack Obama on Release of OLC MemosThe Department of Justice will today release certain memos issued by the Office of Legal Counsel between 2002 and 2005 as part of an ongoing court case. These memos speak to techniques that were used in the interrogation of terrorism suspects during that period, and their release is required by the rule of law. My judgment on the content of these memos is a matter of record. In one of my very first acts as President, I prohibited the use of these interrogation techniques by the United States because they undermine...

In this day and age, apparently "feelings" are considered just as vital as "bones", and as such, Americans making prisoners take their clothes off is just as bad as North Vietnamese breaking prisoners' backs.

Of course, by this standard, the number one perpetrator of torture is probably college students (on themselves and their friends and fellow students), so I'm not really sure why nobody's pushing for a huge pogrom against fraternities...except MAYBE that it would reveal how stupid this politically correct nonsense is.
Considering the practices listed (slamming prisoners into walls, waterboarding, cold rooms, forced nudity) aren't really torture, I fail to see just of what Bush and Company should be ashamed.

Slamming people into walls is informally known to our servicemen as "wall-to-wall counseling," or (as I was reminded tonight by an old friend) "blanket parties." Ok, the latter was actually related to bars of soap, but the principle stands. :)

As for waterboarding, we still to that to our own troops, and I've yet to see even one of these yahoos try to eliminate the practice from SERE training.

From what I've read of Uncle Jimbo's description of the more physical interrogation techniques over at blackfive, you'd sustain greater punishment playing rugby. Unpleasant, yes; torture, no.

Or do the objectors believe time-outs and asking nicely work more efficiently?
