ANA Commandos engage in firefight in Herat

I got these pics from Afstan today and thought I would throw them up there to give yet another sense of what some of the country is like that is being fought over, and how the villages are like small fortresses scattered across the country side - and it's hard to see in them to assess threats.

One thing that struck me is that... how would we feel if that kind of stuff were happening here? I can relate to the guys on the side of the road by the truck, trying to stay very very small.

In a perfect world, we could avoid all wars, period. Unfortunately, we don't live in that perfect world.

The best option open to us is to maintain the capability and will to fight these wars on their soil and in their streets .... not ours.
