The double-dog dare, continued...

You guys are sniffing around the answer, and, in fact, have figured out bits and pieces.

So, let's make this a little easier, by adding the missing piece.

The missing link.

See?  It's just so bloody obvious now, right?

See? I *toldja* you couldn't use it at Gitmo...

Oh, it's for the 10,5 cm Kanone! Well, no wonder I was off....

10.5cm=105mm.  I can't recall if Herman used 105s in WWII, so that might make it post-war, Bundeswehr issue.

Ballistic caluculator for a 105mm howitzer?

The Wehrmacht did indeed use 105mm guns during WWII, it was their standard divisional gun.

The gizmo is a mechanical maker-of-calculations.

But not the ones you are driving at.

And the marking on the insert reads

10.5 cm Kanone L42

Spitz Geschoss Charge 1

"correction of movement plotter. this was laid over a datum sheet for the type of gun/shell."
Hey, I think I had this right before.

Heath

Arte et Marte

Stumped but working on it. Well, I *will* be working on it when I get home from church. If Heath hasn't already nailed it.

Now that added bit makes it all clear.
That is obviously a device used by the graphic arts department in developing the "next-gen" cammie pattern.

Sill holding the three axis idea, The card looks like its set for a specific charge (M/S) so Im guessing temp. humidity and bore wear corrections.

I don't know what it is but it would be nice if it was an Obomber meter for dropping a load on congress. Or a seismic intensifier to break the left coast off and send it out to sea. Anyway, I wasn't there the day we covered that in algebra. I was playing drop the pencil.

Fishmugger - this thing was designed for guys like you.  All the fiddly work is done, you just need to understand how it works and where to find your entry arguments.  And by "how it works" I mean moving the dials and rules, not the underlying math.

No algegra, trig, or calculus required.  The eggheads did that already, and that's embodied in the inter-relationships of the various rules and graphs and dial.

Are you sure you weren't playing "hide the pencil", Fishmugger?

I want to know what the scale/units are on that square in the upper right.
