The Ammunition Accountability Act

We've mentioned this shambling zombie that wanders the corridors of state legislatures before. The bill that would require all ammo to be serialized and tracked, would render reloading illegal, and require that all non-serialized ammunition be consumed, destroyed, or turned-in within a year of enactment of the bill, in any given jurisdiction. Heh. In rural America, at least where there was any intent to comply with such a law, that year would sound like there was a war going on.... Heh, the smoke from smokeless powder would darken the skies, and bring on "Small Arms Winter," vice the oft-promised "Nuclear Winter" that would follow a nuclear exchange.

Well, maybe not. But there's more to the bill than meets the eye. Click "Read More" to see what that might be.

My stupid high school didn't even have JROTC (it wasn't exactly a military-friendly environment).

And of course all the universities down here have blanket firearms bans, so that anybody who wants to shoot up the school is guaranteed not to have any armed opposition.

But hey, at least AFROTC at UM has a $75,000 flight simulator room with a general aviation-style setup designed after the Cessna 172 and a HOTAS setup running Falcon 4.0.
Well, I *do* have to note - my local high school still has a .22 range in the basement.

Whatever . . . remember when you could smoke anywhere, anytime? Remember when you could jump in the car and run to the store without buckling, buttoning, lashing down and and getting clearance from your on board breathalyzer? Remember when High School ROTC had a .22 range on campus?

Nothing is beyond the stupidity of politicians . . . and the American public that consistently re-elects the slime.
Very good compilation of what HASN'T happened with this Bill.

Curious to me, Major, that nowhere in that article is the NRA's contribution to any of the 18-state pigeonholing of the bill mentioned.

Did the NRA actually HAVE a role in dumping this bill, or was it just recognized for what it was, a pie-in-the-sky pile of crapola?

Boq - yes, indeed. You could, I suppose, serialize the wad of the 00 Buck, in addition to the cartridge case.

If this ever passes, look to see development and sales of cartridge catchers go up.

Heh. Criminals will quickly figure out to go to shooting ranges and police up brass to scatter at crime scenes.

How in the helk would you serialize 00 Buck Load? I mean, it can be done. But instead of loading the shot from a hopper, you would have to individually load, assemble, pack, and track each and every subcomponent through the value added chain up 'till the final consumer. Never mind keeping detailed logs on who bought what. I wonder what the added cost per cartridge would that come to.

That plus the Million Dollar Liability Insurance that gun owners would have to purchase, would make this, a VERY expensive hobby.

Oh - I forgot, that's the whole point of this exercise, isn't it?
