Foggy Headed - Foggy Bottom

[Political Observation by Castle Denizen: Boquisucio]

When a TIN-HORNED DICTATOR south of the border strong-arms a national referendum, so as to allow himself to become dictator-for-life, our valiant bureaucrats in The State Department spring into action. Do they raise heckles in condemnation, do they draught regulations restricting exports to such country? Nah – They promptly rise to their Birkenstock-shod feet and APPLAUD HIS AUDACITY FOR HOPE, of course.

No wonder The State Department sits in Foggy Bottom.

My reaction is unprintable, WTF is the lest offensive I have...

Me too, Olga.
Just one more thing to add to my "I cannot believe this is really happening... and my elected officials ARE OK WITH IT' list.

Unless someone comes up with a solid reason for this backwards tactic all I can see is a wall of idiocy here.

The world loses another country to a dictatorship, a similar one has cost an absolute fortune to fix and they clap their hands?

perhaps they were out of regime-change-money. or are saving some for that ahmadinewhatshis name.

The US reaction to Venezuela's vote comes uncharacteristically before the complete tally has been announced.

So, Dan Rather is working for DoS, now?

I'm sooooo moving to Fiji.

My paternal grandfather was working in China throughout the decade prior to the US entering WW2. His job allowed him to spend time in and around the US diplomatic establishment as well as those of the european nations there.

He didn't leave China until after Pearl Harbor.

His pronouncement of US diplomats in asia at that time? Those what weren't in love with Mao were true blue Stalinists.

This got ever worse under the FDR admin. We saw much the same thing with Clintonistas during the '90s and we'll see it again even worse now with the Obamanard.

You know, I gotta agree with TPM Barnett here.  YOu don't win the Great Game by telegraphing all your moves and challenging EVEYONE to a fight at once.  Let's see what the deal is in a Friedman before we start re-enacting the Pace picante sauve commercial.(Just doning my job as CCC member)

I feel your anger, Boq, but it might not be as bad as one thinnks.  Chavez is losing his 'hero zu der Volk' bs persona(http://www.tnr.com/toc/story.html?id=71db6c2d-130c-4c53-a92f-985e8ea2ab06), and losing control of the mass urban poor--meaning he's ripe for a coup himself by some romantic lower-upper-class type.  Hey, there's a reason they didn't give Starvridis(Sorry, can't spell, Sir) a carrier.  Doesn't nee it.  Bolivarism is not DOA, but in the throes.  (Yeah, that's a lot to infer from only one link, but I'm not home at the moment so I can't like to all the other stuff that makes me think that.)
