We don't subscribe to any premium channels. The satellite is expensive enough as it is, for the dross provided on most channels.

This movie, Taking Chance, starring Kevin Bacon and opening on HBO 21 February looks good enough to almost make me want to subscribe. Which is far higher praise than it may sound like.

Chance Phelps was wearing his Saint Christopher medal when he was killed on Good Friday. Eight days later, I handed the medallion to his mother. I didn't know Chance before he died. Today, I miss him.

I don't doubt someone with DVR will grab it.

Even so, I'll be glad to be first in line to buy an "official" copy from HBO. It's worth it.

Probably the best military movie they've done since In Pursuit of Honor.

Let's not forget that HBO did Tuskeegee Airmen as well.

I've wanted someone to do this movie ever since B5 first published Marine Lieutenant Colonel Michael R. Strobl's story very nearly four years ago.

I may sign up for HBO just to get this live. Blackfive's post 'Taking Chance' was one of the first things I ever read in the Milblogs, and the story makes me cry every time I read it.

I have HBO...I can tape it and send you a copy. I just have to remember how to do that. And you'll need at least a 42 inch screen cause if I tape it off that, you won't be able to watch it on some small set.

HBO comes with the minimum digital cable package here, and I don't really watch it very often, but it's great when they've got a good miniseries or something, like that John Adams series.

Do you have a Netflix subscription? If not, I would STRONGLY suggest you try it out. You can get this on DVD, plus anything else you can think of. It's very convenient, I love it.

LtCol Strobel indicated that it was 95% accurate - I suspect the other 5% were a bit of dramatic licence that won't hurt the story one bit.

And yeah - I don't have HBO either.

I'm debating it.

I'm going to an advance screening of this in early February. I hope it will remain true to the story and the people involved.
