Speaking of the economy...

This post by Jim Powell at The Corner is perhaps one of the most succinct summaries of what we shouldn't do again in dealing with the current economic mess. If you're too busy to read Amity Shlaes' "The Forgotten Man," read this.

One thing I might add is the need to pay attention to how language is hijacked by the Left to either obscure or simply hide the true nature of their prescriptions--the word "freedom" means union-supported federal coercion in the "Freedom of Choice Act," "fairness" means "redistribution" (again, whether you like it or not) and the word "tax" has been banished utterly and replaced by "investment."

Is there ANY GOP leader out there that is 1) still in office and 2) willing to start calling these people on this?

I did plough through Ms. Shlaes' Oeouvre last Spring.  Little did I know then, that most of her narration would be current today and tomorrow.

Long story short, what got us out of the Depression was us getting into WWII.
