When a Democrat answers, "I don't know" or "I don't recall" or "Ooops -- I misspoke," he (or she)  gets a pass because, well, gee, we're all frail human beings, right?

When a Republican answers the same way, he's an obfuscating prevaricator and will be lucky to get off with a shred of his humanity intact.

About the rest of the issues, I think the best thing to do is allow history to come in and examine everything. Then, act accordingly.
