Day 8 of the Obama administration. Still no unicorns, dammit. Nor any assistance with our outbreak of rural violence. Promises were made! Yesterday was a day of profound sadness as the fallen of Argghhh! were laid to rest in the hard-frozen ground. Heh. It's always the pretty ones. The handsome banty and the gorgeous grey Americauna roosters. Mike and Ike, huge, strapping roosters whose father also fell in the line of duty, were suspiciously uninjured. I'm not sure anything other than their father's horniness courses through those veins. The interloper was back last night - the new-fallen snow revealing his path - Gaia must suffer the loss of some trees, I'm thinking, in order to keep the little masked bandits off the roof. I'm considering installing a infra-red beam alarm - to better wake Gunner and I so we can exact some revenge. Oh, piffle, don't talk to me about breaking the cycle of violence - it's in the little masked-bassids natures... -the Armorer

Gotta love a Cinderella story - even if the guy is earning a half-mil a year minimum wage...
Get some, Sean! -the ArmorerJust like that, Sean McHugh was deemed not good enough to play for the lowly Lions, who would go winless – the first 0-16 season in league history.
If you’re not good enough to play for the worst team ever, who exactly are you good enough to play for?
“What are we going to do?” he thought.
How about play in the Super Bowl?

In less good news, two bits about veterans. First up - a Brit Marine gets the shaft from his local council (mind you, we don't know both sides of the story) but I do like this bit related by Brit Marine Joe Townsend:
“One female councillor said something like, ‘Sod the laws, give the lad the house he needs’.
“I thought that was brilliant. It’s a shame that everybody didn’t feel the same way.”
Indeed! Too bad.
Still, that turned out better than what happened when WWII veteran Marvin Schur ran afoul of his local council... he froze to death. Clearly, a policy needs some policing. H/t Jim C for both stories. -the Armorer

Too funny. And totally apt for the Castle.

So, the cockpit voice recorder transcript for the US Air flight that went into the Hudson has been released. NSFW words alert. Who knew there was such tension in the cockpit? -the Armorer

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires. Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute. Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is. The UAVs we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now. Of course, now I have to call them UAS's, because someone got a Legion of Merit for the name change.Anyway, I call the post H&I Fires because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to that particular topic. Another term of art that might be appropriate is Free Fire Zone.
OMG... the idiocy of government is just overwhelming sometimes- as in the case of the British Marine who was denied independent living.
Unreal.
