Yanno, sometimes ya just can't make this stuff up.

No. Really. I mean it. Jay over at Stop The ACLU piles on. But we have graphics!

It's going to be a crazy busy day today, but I had to share that one with you.

Jules Crittenden has a good one: Found in the hallowed ground at bloody Antietam 146 years later, by a hiker who spotted human remains by a groundhog hole. News, history and eyewitness accounts follow if you click this link. Welcome home, soldier.

For those of you who just can't wait for the Presidential Inauguration, click here for a morale-booster. -the Armorer

Update: Welcome all you visting from La Malkin, Ace and now, the Corner! While you're here... take a moment and vote for Argghhh! in the Best Midsize Blog category in the 2008 Weblog Awards!

*******************************
For the gunnies among us - since these people had the good sense to steal Neffi's pics of a defunct .45 pistol (but did link to the post) it only seems fair to link to their thread on firearms suffering from going, "Ka-bumm!" N.B.: There is one set of rough pics that include the shooter's injured hand, so have a care.

The startled egg farmer looks up. Huh?

PEDANTIC MODE=TRUE

Actually, the hens are going to lay their eggs whether or not there's a rooster around to fertilize them. Just as the human estrus cycle has women essentially dropping an egg a month, boys or no boys, sex or no sex, the hens do the same thing, except on a daily basis. As long as they get 10 hours of light or so a day, and are generally healthy, they'll lay eggs.

There are the ASPCA/PETA issues about how the birds are treated in industrial farming, but here at the Castle the hens get free food, free medical care, and the only work they have to do is... eat bugs, which they want to do anyway. And they can wander as far away as they want during the day. And we don't bring 'em back at night, they come back because they know a good deal when they've got it. Kinda like me being in the Army - free food, free medical care, and I got paid to shoot stuff. When it was clear they weren't going to let me shoot stuff anymore... Anyway, the hens come and go as they please during the day. They do get shut in during the night, which protects them from predators. But all they'd do at night is... sit around anyway. Now they get to sit around, gossip, and be warm and safe. Chickens in industrial egg operations don't have it so nice, but Castle Argghhh! chickens have it made.

PEDANTIC MODE=FALSE

That said, chicken sex is... not pretty. Pretty rough, those roosters. In the world of chickens and guineas and ducks... it's all about the boy, clearly. And they like it rough. And the ducks don't feel constrained by species, either, as several unsuspecting hens have discovered.

...And all this time the "healthtarians" have been bugging people to eat less meat, and more fish'n' shrimp.

Now that seafood is more popular (check out the local Krogers), PETA wants us to eat, what? Algae?

Maybe someone should set up a T-shirt at cafepress with P.J. O'Rourke's old question: If meat is murder, are eggs rape?
This is just a rehash of the 'jesus kills a kitten everytime...' rubbish. PETA gets very grumpy that RSPCA gets so much more support because RSPCA focus on and markets pets as opposed to all animals. One feels for for a pet than beefsteak I suppose.
PETA was conjured-up in the basement of a Tacoma Park, Maryland resident. A couple blocks from my bride's childhood home. Tacoma Park abutts right on the D.C. border. Presidents of the late 19th Century used to summer there, for it's in higher grounds than the swamps of The Mall.

Tacky Park refers to Berkely as the Tacoma Park of the West. Pity though, for most of the city is made of turn of the century majestic victorians.
Typical PETA. Don't they realize that this is going to totally confuse the heck out of Jessica Simpson (and may Tony Romo, too). Just when she was getting it figured out that "Chicken of the Sea" wasn't really chicken (not too many chickens in the sea) but actually tunafish, PETA goes and recklessly endangers this woman's life and sanity by introducing a third species. Leave Jessica alone; please, leave Jessica alone.
