A noted psychiatrist was a guest speaker at an academic function where Nancy Pelosi happened to appear. Ms Pelosi took the opportunity to schmooze the good doctor a bit and asked him a question with which he was most at ease.

"Would you mind telling me, Doctor,' she asked, 'how you detect a mental deficiency in somebody who appears completely normal?"

"Nothing is easier," he replied. "You give him a simple task and observe his performance."

"What sort of task?" asked Pelosi.

"I would take him into a bathroom and show him a tub full of water and a teaspoon, a cup and a pail, and then instruct him to empty the tub as rapidly as possible."

"I see," said Pelosi. "A normal person would use the bucket."

"No," replied the psychiatrist, "a normal person would open the drain."
