2008 Weblog Awards

Well, The Weblog Awards is finally off and running, meaning Kevin Aylward is running around with his hair on fire.

Oddly enough, after a two-year absence from the awards, not being a premier milblog anymore, just kind of a place to hang-out frequented by old veterans and their groupies, with some guns hanging on the wall, we didn't even know that someone had nominated us.  To whoever that was, thanks!

Not in the milblog category, mind you.  No.  Save your scrolling finger some effort, and open the 2008 Weblog Awards link and yank it all the way to the bottom and scroll up...  trust me, your scrolling finger will thank you.  Our category is fourth up from the bottom (vice 44th from the top...) and titled "Best Midsize Blog Not Good Enough To Be Nominated In A More Specific Category."  Or, perhaps, "Best Midsize Blog Too Eclectic To Categorize."  Yeah, I like that better. Okay, tt's actually Best Midsize Blog (Authority between 201 and 300), which puts me firmly in my place doesn't it?.

Ah, it's a good thing, actually.  I can't afford to get too big for my britches.  Then they'd all have to be custom-made.

These are the milbog nominees:

From My Position... on the way!
The War on Big Tobacco
Blackfive
Michael Yon
This Ain't Hell
One Marine's View
Op For
Army of Dude
Milblogging.com
Knee Deep in the Hooah!

Me, I'm thinking, "Anybody But Matty" myself, but I'm kinda like Greyhawk, I hate to choose among the guys and gals in the box, much less guys and gals in the box and guys and gals not in the box.  Except, there don't seem to be many gals in either location, does there?  What's up with that?  Not from a selection standpoint, from a blogging standpoint - where are the milgurl bloggers?

This is our competition, a rather eclectic multi-national melange that bruits about the political and cultural spectrum, but they all look to be pretty good at what they do:

Zomblog
Betsy's Page
The Sideshow
Israel Matzav
Argghhh!
Rod 2.0
At Largely
Scholars And Rogues
Suburban Guerilla
Hoyden About Town

Heh.  I don't know any of 'em (and I suspect they don't know us, either).  That's what happens when you're in the 45th category of 50, or whatever it is!

In some other categories... such as having to choose between Rachel Lucas and Jules Crittenden in Best Individual Blogger... well, Jules links here a lot more than Rachel does...

I like the choices in the  Best Conservative Blog, but wonder how a list like that gets compiled that doesn't include National Review's The Corner...  but hey, it's not like we went shilling for nominations, either, or that K-Lo and crowd need the exposure.  Heh.  First I knew was when my favorite leftish milblogger, Jason of Armchair Generalist, sent me a congratulatory note!  Gotta admit, Jason - I'm partial to your old look... but I'm glad you kept the dragon!

Geez, I use "eclectic" in one lousy e-gram and you throw it around like Jake does a squirrel frisbee...

Feh.  I use it twice, the second time as a reinforcer of the point, and you get all snarkical about it.

Don't you like owe me some art?

*cough* Doesn't he owe ALL of us art?
Oh, wait.  I haven't posted in ... forever.  So I should jsut STFU now.

Okay, if I've gotta suffer for my art, I'm takin' yez all wit' me.

Just don't show up with a hangover tomorrow...

As a judge and loooooongtime lurker on your site, I'll have you know I was scrambling for a category that befit your standing.  After you were rejected as a finalist in LGBT and Fashion, I thought I could wedge you in with the Canadians without anyone noticing, but I was wrong. So, congratulations on Midsize. Think of yourself as the Ford Taurus of the blogosphere.

Art, ... Art, ... Where's that picture of Art? Art the Eclectic?

Cheers

Another one of my favorite people, Professor Kristina Chew, was nominated in best medical/health issues blog category. I just asked her to vote for you. I now ask you to vote for her. Her blog is Autism Vox, linked from autism-hub.co.uk.

Matt - bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Snerk.  In terms of mass, I'm the Lincoln Navigator of the Blogosphere...

You're not referring to #82 again, are you?!?

I know what you mean. Back when I blogged, I was the rail dragster. Abnormally skinny and the crowd's enjoyment lasted about 3.5 seconds.

Who are you calling a groupie?
