I will always place the mission first.
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.
The message is clear. I will never leave a fallen comrade.

DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sergeant 1st Class Miguel A. Wilson, 36, of Bonham, Texas, died Nov. 21 in Abu Sayf, Iraq, of injuries sustained during a rescue attempt of another soldier while their unit was conducting a dismounted reconnaissance mission. He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

Leave no man behind.

Just words to some people.

A core value to others.

Now is the time at Castle Argghhh! when we dance: In Memoriam for Sergeant First Class Miguel A. Wilson.

Libation just spilled and short prayer launched. May he never thirst, wherever he is.

And the same for that guy he was going after.

It's a great core value to have, but it will do us well to remember that in a real fight with a first rate military force, some small unit leaders may have to make the decision to abandon dead comrades, and perhaps at times wounded ones, in order to continue with the mission. We have not been in war with such a possibility since Vietnam (for the MIKE Forces and SOG only) and Korea. Since Grenada, we have always had the overwhelming firepower and support to ensure that this core value is met. That may not be the case in a land war with China, for example, and to adhere to that value at the cost of a greater number of dead and wounded, or worse, the failure of a vital mission, would be the road to disaster.
