Happy 233rd Birthday, USMC!

Everybody knows that a Marine will feign extreme distress at being called a Soldier (even though he's secretly tickled pink to be thought of as one). Even Wikipedia notices the similarities:

Culturally, Marines and Soldiers share most of the common US military slang and terminology

(not to mention vehicles and equipment -- especially those M-1s you guys "borrowed" for Gulf I)

but the Corps utilizes a large number of naval terms and traditions incompatible with the Army lifestyle.

Buuuuuut we won't go into that whole sordid mess about hanging out with sailors.

Marines and Soldiers share something else -- we'll bust our guts for one another and go ten extra miles beyond the extra mile we normally go for one of the other services. And I think it's pretty appropriate that the Corps' Special Day leads directly into Veterans' Day -- you guys have a kind of tradition of leading...

Happy Birthday, Ladies and Gentlemen of the Corps, and to you Former Marines who saw the light.

Happy Birthday Marines and thank you for protecting my butt whilst TDY at Da Nang in '65. Yes...I was that Air Force puke running around the flight line with the clipboard and the 45 I wasn't qualified with. This calls for another beer...

Happy Birthday teuffelhundens!

Kat -- Teufelshunde is the word, but I guess amerikanischedeutsche would work. 'Cept it'd be hunden -- no "ess" needed to pluralize the plural...

Happy birthday, Jarheads!  To all the leathernecks I have ever met, thank you for your gung-ho spirit that has inspired many of the rest of us to go the extra mile (or two)!

Yeah.  it sounded right.  Next time I'll "google-unde" heh?

Born in a Bar too. It just doesn't get any better.
