The American Dream: I Worked For That

hat tip: hotair

"Cavuto: You don't fit the gazillionaire model, but you are at the tax cut off that will be affected."

This gentleman is a plumber that has lived frugally, saved his money and is now making a move to buy a company to become a business owner for the first time. The "due diligence" on this business apparently shows that it will make just over Obama's "tax increase".

Cavuto notes, as I have, that some people see Obama as "Robinhoodish"?

This gentleman notes that the story of Robinhood was to take from the "greedy, corrupt rich" and give to the peasants. We aren't peasants or serfs in this country. Working for a company and earning a wage is not "slavery" it is choice because, in this nation, you can own property, get an education, build your own business, move to any state, county or city and no one can tell you "no". A peasant never had that choice. Our friendly neighborhood plumber notes that he is not a "peasant". He is trying to live the American Dream.

"If you work hard, you're going to get what you want...I resent the the government or Barack Obama's plan to take more away from me."

They aren't just planning to take more away from this plumber, but give it away to someone that does not work for him. Because, indeed, if this business owner had the money in his budget that Obama was planning to tax away from him, he could hire an apprentice journeyman who would learn a trade and possibly, one day, become his own boss. Or, actually pay for some half-way decent benefits for his employees. Because, even with the "tax credits" for health insurance, this business will get a "break" of less than 1/3 of the actual increase in taxes he'll be paying.

But, according to Sen. Obama, the government knows better who should have that money. God forbid that this business owner add an employee, increase his business, increase his revenue and, yes, maybe even get to hire one or two more employees as time goes on. That is real "trickle up" economics. Giving people jobs that will pay them a living wage and provide them with the opportunity to say: I worked for that.

Yeah, if I'd known Uncle Sam would save me from those greedy mortgage brokers who hounded me about a VA re-fi, I would have bought that bigger house in the nicer section of town. And then took out a home equity mortgage to buy some fancier furniture, that really big HDTV and Blu-Ray, and some snazzy threads.

Now I feel screwed.

I had the same thought about McCain's "buy up the bad mortgages to keep people in their houses" idea: I work hard, and I make sure my house payment is made, therefore I get to keep my house. Why shouldn't everyone else be held to that standard?
We are truly turning into a socialist country. It's sad to see.
