John Hawkins polled us right wing trolls again.  I neglected to turn in my response, so I'm not reflected here - but I fell in with the majority of the crowd with one exception - I would have left the "who will win" column unanswered.  I have no idea, only hopes.  I have done my bit, I've already voted.  For McCain, which is the only office I'm going to reveal my vote on.  What's the point of a secret ballot if you spill the beans? -the Armorer

From Move America Forward in email this morning:
It’s almost hard to believe, but it seems that in defending the Marine Corp’s right to operate in Berkeley , CA , we’ve driven out the radical anti-military group Code Pink. They’re actually closing their office and selling off pinko signs, patchouli oil, over-stuffed couches, and peace signs this week.

Yep.  From a classified ad in the Berkeley area this week.  Apparently, if you aren't getting funding from the city, you can't mount a decent protest - unless you're MAF, anyway:
We must close our CodePINK office, 1248 Solano Ave., Albany. Come to our EVERYTHING MUST GO Moving Sale from noon until 7:00pm Tuesday Oct 28th thru Thursday Oct 30th!

All the office furniture, display cabinets, tschotkes, and all the wonderful outdoor furniture and fixings as well - not to mention CodePINK memorabilia and merchandise - will be on sale!

Come get your treasure and help us close this part of our chapter.
You probably already heard this from La Malkin - but today, she indulges in a little frisson of snark.

Heh.  Of course, it could be they're just pulling up stakes because they figure the Obama Administration will just give 'em what they want, regardless.  Double-heh.  I still think the Navy should stop participating in Fleet Week in San Francisco, given how they want all us warmongerers out of there and have pretty much driven all the active forces out anyway.  But then, I'm open to letting SF secede and declare themselves an open city.  But I'm a radical.  -the Armorer

Still think the media is playing it straight and honest?
Let’s try a thought experiment. Say John McCain attended a party at which known racists and terror mongers were in attendance. Say testimonials were given, including a glowing one by McCain for the benefit of the guest of honor ... who happened to be a top apologist for terrorists. Say McCain not only gave a speech but stood by, in tacit approval and solidarity, while other racists and terror mongers gave speeches that reeked of hatred for an American ally and rationalizations of terror attacks.

The L.A. Times Suppresses Obama’s Khalidi Bash Tape, by Andy McCarthy, over at National Review.

Senator Obama, in his own words:
You know, if you look at the victories and failures of the civil-rights movement, and its litigation strategy in the court, I think where it succeeded was to vest formal rights in previously dispossessed peoples. So that I would now have the right to vote, I would now be able to sit at a lunch counter and order and as long as I could pay for it, I’d be okay, but the Supreme Court never entered into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and sort of more basic issues of political and economic justice in this society.
Bill Whittle has more.  Although Kevin might disagree with me here - there is a choice this year.  A Reid-Pelosi Congress with a President Obama has the potential for a lot of change.  In a chinese curse sort of way.  -the Armorer

Canadian Op-Ed columnist  David Warren makes an interesting observation about Senator Obama's work habits...
A man who, should he win the election and serve one term, will have been President of the United States longer than he has held any steady job.

Of course, as an Army officer, that's true about me, too.  I had the same employer for decades, but never held any particular position longer than two years.  -the Armorer

Speaking of white men who are criminals - meet Ted Stevens, felon.  He had a right to defend himself.  He didn't have a right to take the seat with him.

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires. Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute. Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is. The UAVs we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now. Of course, now I have to call them UAS's, because someone got a Legion of Merit for the name change.Anyway, I call the post H&I Fires because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to that particular topic. Another term of art that might be appropriate is Free Fire Zone.

You know what I keep seeing?  I keep seeing democrats talking about "government creating wealth".  Is there nobody on the public stage that will stand up and say that government's job is not to "create wealth", but get the heck out of the way for people to create it themselves?

I know Sarah Palin did, but there is nobody else who is or can.  They are all running scared, like cockroaches.  No prinicples, just survival.

There are no Nathan Hales.  No one has but one life to give for their country except our men and women in uniform.

Fascinating paper on Vietnam era POWs.

A compilation of everything we already knew, thirty years ago.

We *knew* North Vietnam retainted French POWs after 1954 -- they were referred to as "our precious pearls" in communications with the French Government (which still shared information with us in those days) discussing major construction projects the North wanted the French to undertake in exchange for those "pearls." One project completed, so many POWs quietly returned; another project completed, a few more returned.

The VC may have been told to keep captured Americans alive, but I know of at least one instance where a fixed-wing crew was captured alive and executed. We found the remains -- they couldn't be described as "bodies" any longer.

And that's all I'll say on the subject for now, because I'm losing my dispassionate objectivity really fast...

The discussion of any posibility of live prisoners was pretty well killed by Senators McCain, Kerry, Smith, and Reid et al in January of 1993........We were supposed to move on.

I know of a Rotor Wing Crew also, Bill........The crew chief saw it from his hiding place and told the story when he was found.

Nobody would believe him.

During the primary season, I made a post, complete with the link to the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA proceedings that were shut down by McCain, Kerry et al and was lambasted for doing so.

Information may be buried, but tends to rise to the surface with a little digging.  McCains handling of this issue was inexplicable and shameful at best.

But, for those who care.  Missing, Presumed Dead is available.

To refresh your memory.

Indefensible actions and unanswered questions still remain.

But,  McCain's a 'hero' right?

On "Code Pink" me thinks their funding from Soros et al has dried up.  Bush is leaving office and they "know" the one has it in the bag.  Time to send the useful idiots home.  Even if the war goes on, there will be no protest.

I don't remember people mindlessly protesting Clinton, but then again I was overseas most of his time in office.

If governments could create wealth, there'd never be a need for budget deficits, and taxpayers could stop paying taxes at some point after ante-ing up the Treasury's seed money.

"ATF disrupts Skinhead plot to kill a 102 black Americans - and Senator Obama. Good on the ATF. Good luck to the Bureau of Prisons to find a hole deep enough for those guys that they don't end up hamburger in prison. -the Armorer"

Why?    These scumbags plotted to kill innocent bystanders, to commit terrorism within the bounds of the United States.   Killing is too good for them.   These are not "Misguided" they are TERRORISTS.  They should be given over to other convicts inclined to give them fear, and pain, until they die.
