I still think the Navy should stop participating in Fleet Week in San Francisco, given how they want all us warmongerers out of there and have pretty much driven all the active forces out anyway. Say John McCain attended a party at which known racists and terror mongers were in attendance. Say testimonials were given, including a glowing one by McCain for the benefit of the guest of honor ... who happened to be a top apologist for terrorists. Say McCain not only gave a speech but stood by, in tacit approval and solidarity, while other racists and terror mongers gave speeches that reeked of hatred for an American ally and rationalizations of terror attacks.

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires. Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute. Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is. The UAVs we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now. Of course, now I have to call them UAS's, because someone got a Legion of Merit for the name change.Anyway, I call the post H&I Fires because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to that particular topic. Another term of art that might be appropriate is Free Fire Zone.

We *knew* North Vietnam retainted French POWs after 1954 -- they were referred to as "our precious pearls" in communications with the French Government (which still shared information with us in those days) discussing major construction projects the North wanted the French to undertake in exchange for those "pearls." One project completed, so many POWs quietly returned; another project completed, a few more returned.
The VC may have been told to keep captured Americans alive, but I know of at least one instance where a fixed-wing crew was captured alive and executed. We found the remains -- they couldn't be described as "bodies" any longer.
And that's all I'll say on the subject for now, because I'm losing my dispassionate objectivity really fast...
I know of a Rotor Wing Crew also, Bill........The crew chief saw it from his hiding place and told the story when he was found.
Nobody would believe him.
Information may be buried, but tends to rise to the surface with a little digging. McCains handling of this issue was inexplicable and shameful at best.

Why? These scumbags plotted to kill innocent bystanders, to commit terrorism within the bounds of the United States. Killing is too good for them. These are not "Misguided" they are TERRORISTS. They should be given over to other convicts inclined to give them fear, and pain, until they die.
