A father proud of his son:  You have posted stuff about my son before. Today he musters out and as a proud dad I wrote this tribute in my blog.

Today my hero Captain Jon Brooks is mustering out of the Army. The pride I have in my son is unexplainable. I well remember pinning those gold bars on him at New Mexico Military Institute in 1999. I never dreamed then that we would see what we have seen and that he would be thrust into a war. In all he spent twenty nine months of his twenty nine years in a combat zone deep in the heart of Baghdad. What all he and the men he led endured I will probable never know. What I do know is enough to create within me both pride and awe.

My son would be embarrassed to know that his Dad posted this. Throughout his entire military career he has never been one to blow his own horn. Half of all that he accomplished we found out almost by accident. I would Google his name and find an article on him or his unit that he either never told us about or did not know existed. Once in a telephone call he stated, “Oh yeah, I was awarded the Bronze Star the other day.” I will never forget the Christmas that after talking on the telephone with the whole family laughing and joking with us he said, “Hey, Mom let me talk to Dad.” He then matter of factly told me he had been wounded the night before but was fine.

Read the rest here.  And you should.  -the Armorer

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires. Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute. Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is. The UAVs we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now. Of course, now I have to call them UAS's, because someone got a Legion of Merit for the name change.Anyway, I call the post H&I Fires because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to that particular topic. Another term of art that might be appropriate is Free Fire Zone.

Great tank! And great idea for Pythonesque movie dialog over there, maybe you should get together and make the movie.
... And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it." Amen.

Garbled in translation sorry. Great movie dialog from a Monty Python movie. The only dialog I like better is the swallow question.

Perhaps the church tank could be featured in a Pythoneque movie.

Multi-tasking - how to do more than one thing, poorly.

So, that's a Crusader Tank or the Popemobile v5?

As I type, jihadi websites the world over are dissiminating this picture as proof of evil western designs upon their lands!

The Dark Imperium of the 40K universe has arrived!

Salvation through superior firepower anyone?

The Crimson Permanent Assurance! Crikey, I'd forgotten about them... that *would *explain Wall Street...

Nice Eagle shot!
But nothing beats an Intruder loaded up with 28 Mk. 82s.

Greetings:

Something to add to your list of 'THINGS YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE IN YOUR REARVIEW MIRROR."

I bet when that minister/priest speaks, EVERYBODY listens.

And they cried "Death to the followers of the False Emperor!"  "Blood for the Blood God!"

   Kevin will understand...   :)
